Railroads Press Urgent Freight Rate Increase Demand
The piece argues railroads face no alternative but to raise freight rates as traffic declines and costs rise, insisting the move is essential to remain solvent despite not wanting a rate hike. A fragment of social chatter appears about stepping out for dinner with an “upper set” and a joke about choosing a “lower set” for a tougher steak.
Your War Bond I and a FE bond investment angle
The piece frames a patriotic push for buying war bonds and presents an FE bond as a solid investment. It lists year by year values for a $1,000 1% FE bond over ten years, ending at $1,000, while a customer quips about waiting. A witty exchange follows where a waitress replies to a customer about her place in the queue.
