Remembering Burns The Wrestler and Father of a Champion
Hartley recalls Burns a longtime friend of his father. Burns trained hard, ran four miles daily, and locked his neck with iron weights after injuries. He boxed publicly, wrestled from age 19 to 62, never drank or smoked, and left two sons and a daughter who excelled physically. Burns died in Council Bluffs in 1937 at age 76 and is buried in Orient Iowa with a simple headstone after failed monument fundraising.
