PTA speaker Peter Kreppel notes German schools run 240 days yearly versus 180 in the U.S. with 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. classes and about four hours of homework. He explains German high schools focus on "life work" with separate tracks.
The speaker outlines German education with no coeducation until around age 20, 40 percent complete elementary, 40 percent high school, and 10 percent university. Kreppel aims to teach German language and history in Augsburg, a Bavarian town with 12 high schools, coming from a musical family. He is youngest of four. his father has a 5,000 book library and travels widely. The PTA officials commented on rock and roll giving him a headache.
The Fort Dodge district office announces social security contact stations in Emmetsburg at the courthouse 10:00 to 12:30 Wednesdays on February 13 and 27 and March 13 and 27. In Estherville at City Hall 1:00 to 2:30 Tuesdays on February 5 and 19 and March 5 and 19. Appointments to see a representative may be obtained by writing to the Fort Dodge district office.
