George Richards of Wallingford defeated Laula Olson of Arnolds Park in a two fall match at Wallingford. Richards weighed 286 pounds while Olson carried about 50 pounds less. In a preliminary at Wallingford Gerald Reed beat a young man named Johnson in one fall, despite Reed being outweighed by 26 pounds.

Ruthven Beats Graettinger In Close Gym Showdown

Ruthven High School boys and girls traveled to Graettinger for a big district gym night. The girls lost 20 to 13 but played their best, while the Ruthven boys dominated early but faltered, losing 29 to 3 in the second half amid aggressive play and home crowd energy. Abbie Gardner Sharpe Dies at Colfax

Abbie Gardner Sharpe, aunt of Mrs. Frank Meade of Bramaetsburg and sole survivor of the Spirit Lake massacre of 1857, died at Colfax Friday evening. She was fourteen at the time, later ransomed by friendly Indians. The log cabin of the massacre remains at Arnolds Park. Woodman lodge initiates Monday with refreshments after. many members urged to attend. Auction on February 8 will feature a new Dodge automobile barely used.

Benjamin Confesses He Killed His Wife

L. J. Benjamin of Algens confessed in open court to killing his wife with a hammer after a quarrel over another woman. He said a fit of rage led to the strike, and he may seek a jury trial or waive it for a judges’ decision. Evidence suggested a strong likelihood of conviction. He returned home calmly fifteen minutes after the act and later stood beside his wife’s coffin declaring innocence.
