Drunk Man Triggers Railroad Wreck Near Rock Rapids
Charley Bull, a Lester saloonkeeper, rode home drunk from Rock Rapids and misguided his team onto the Burlington tracks. He unhitched the buggy to clear the way, but a fast freight struck the horses, derailed, and rolled 100 feet, tearing two empty stock cars. The engine broke from the track and lay in a ditch. the engineer and fireman escaped with minor injuries.
