Wallingford Red Cross Fund Drive a Big Sale Success
The Wallingford Red Cross branch held a Saturday sale on December 29 with farmers and businessmen contributing a large amount of items. Auctioneer Grodland donated services, J A Nelson of Warmers Saving Bank gave time, and a fine dinner was served. Total receipts topped 560 dollars to fund garments for soldiers. The hall was provided by the M W and volunteers, including Mrs E Olson and Mrs Agnes Strand, led by Chairman J M Wolden. The event featured a Red Cross Liberty Duck, a bean jar, and penny jars, drawing many locals despite bitter cold as the community praised the effort.

His brother J A Spies and sister Mrs Preston Fahnestock traveled for the funeral while another sister Mrs Carson of Wichita cannot attend. Three Spencer men R. M. Snore Hugh Gilleas and Dr. R. W. Reamer faced a holdup Thursday evening last week while en route to Sioux City with about $1000 to buy a automobile. Approaching Leeda they saw a car blocking the road and suspicious activity suggested an ambush by unknown men nearby.
