Oldest active barber in America carries on at Centralia shop
Joseph Jacob Touye, aged eighty seven in Centralia DL, is believed to be the oldest active barber in the United States. He has worked sixty four years in his trade with a three year stint in Bavaria, where he was born, before arriving in America in 1856 and starting his current shop in 1808. Regular patron Marvin Bughitt, telegraph operator and later Chicago and North Western board chairman, was among his customers, along with General Phil Sheridan.
