Increase Reported In Palo Alto's Soil Conservation
A record gain in soil conservation on Palo Alto County farms was reported by Chas. Stillman Jr. chair man of the Palo Alto Soil Conservation District. Fifty six farmers joined as new cooperators in 11 months, surpassing 49 in 1951. National figures show 80 percent more cooperators in 1952, with over a quarter million farmers newly cooperating nationwide. Locally 128 farmers have sought SCS technical assistance, managing 24,500 acres, as progressive planning expands immediate cooperative help and permanent practices.

Check Cattle Now for Grubs in County
Cattlemen should inspect stock for bumps under the hide indicating cattle grubs. Grubs hatched from eggs laid on flanks and legs bore into flesh and migrate to the back. Control with rotenone spray about 30 days after bumps appear, mixing 74 pounds of 5 percent rotenone with 2 pounds detergent in 100 gallons water, repeating at 30 day intervals, possibly a third treatment.
