Sixteenth annual Graettinger Farmers Institute at Hawkeye

The Graettinger Farmers Institute held its sixteenth session at the Hawkeye, spanning Thursday to Saturday. Highlights included Poultry talks by Curt Allen and John Poultry, soloists Dorothy Johnson and a civic improvement talk by Mrs Saunders, a fiddlers contest won by Louis Kautson, and an Ames Hort iculture address by Prof Herrick. The program featured a Ladies’ day, a high school chorus, and a Dairy Manufacturing talk by Prof Watson, with favorable reception from attendees.

Dedication of the Immaculate Conception Church

Yesterday February 18 the dedication of the Immaculate Conception parish church was held in this city. Rev M Mon Sig Saunders of Fort Dodge performed the ceremony and Rev Father Kelly led Mass with deacon Rev McNerney and sub deacon Rev Murtagh. The sermon by Rev Halpin of Algona praised the church as above average for its size and noted its rebuilding effort led by Father Kelly. The church has grown from 35 to 90 families as membership expanded over 23 years.

Good Roads program and wedding noted at Emmetsburg

Saturday program featured Dr. Kepford and A J Rhodas with talks on good roads and road legislation. A wedding then united Timothy Sullivan and Josephine Guerdette at the Catholic church with a reception and trip to Chicago before settling in Great Falls Montana. church remodeling described as a brick veneered dome topped project with a 400 seat capacity and cost over 15000 dollars.

Pretty Wedding at Wallingford in February ceremony

The marriage of Mr. Holver H. Patarson and Miss Emma Fossum of Wallingford occurred at the bride’s parents home near Wallingford on Thursday February. Only a few immediate relatives witnessed the ceremony. Both contracting parties are well known around Wallingford.

Farewell Reception for Departing City Families

A farewell reception hosted by the Lutheran Aid at the home of Reverend and Mrs Sande honored the H G Hattison and Lavebike families on Monday afternoon. The Hattisons will move to Long Prairie Minnesota and the Brekkes to Crystal Lake Minnesota. Both families have long resided here and contributed to local business life. A generous lunch was served and each family received a silver set. Ray and Sande presented the gifts and were thanked by Messrs Harrison and Brekke. All attendees enjoyed the afternoon.

Annual Stockholders Meeting of Lost Island Creamery

The Lost Island Creamery Company held its annual meeting and elected officers for the ensuing year. Jim Hanson was named President, Albert Christensen Secretary, S P Dohns Treasurer, with Jorgen Paulaen and J Rasmussen as Directors. The 1913 year showed the largest business and highest returns yet, while a new 26 horse power boiler was being installed and supplies were ample.
