The J A Spies residence a landmark in Graettinger was destroyed by fire after 4 80 pm with only second floor rooms saved. No insurance. loss about 10000. Built 37 years ago by Fred Simonsen it stood as a large well furnished home. Fire started likely from sparks or roof and alarm came from children returning from school. J A Spies family faces heavy financial loss.
A lively event featured vocal performances and readings, attracting a large, appreciative audience. The program included varied readings and songs, highlighting local talent and offering friendly hospitality.
Depositors of the Iowa Savings bank meet at Grant's Theater in Estherville today at 1 90 p m to reorganize. A four member committee represents the depositor group as the bank was closed November 24 and is in liquidation. There is chatter about opening the First National bank due to local investors confidence.
The C A Selee residence in the town's southeast area burned Sunday evening, reducing the house to ashes. Insurance covers only part, about $400 short. Most household goods were lost, save a bed and a few small items kept in rooms above Amdahl meat market. Selee had leased the Amdahl apartment and planned to move the rest Monday. He had recently bought the place from McAllister and improved it.
Mr and Mrs G B Johnson of Gruettinger celebrated 25 years of marriage with 70 neighbors and friends who brought baskets and a feast. A silver purse token honored the couple as they were wished many more blissful years. North Side basketbell team beat South Side 14 to 8 in gym play, with protest over Alfred Simonsen’s eligibility and W L O Connor refereeing.
Seth A. Smith, a pioneer citizen of Lost Leland township, was stricken with paralysis at neighbor Mr. Sandvig’s home and remains there. Known in Palo Alto as a substantial, influential resident, his illness is deeply regretted and hopes for improvement are expressed.
The Burkhead Clothing Company offers a $5 Broadway hat to the Graettinger basketball player with the highest score in the Emmats-Surg tournament this week. "Let's Get Graettinger."
The Graettinger Independent basketball team won at Milford on Thursday evening with a 30 to 18 score. The game featured solid play and was well received by the local audience.
Hamilton Riley Mr William Hamilton and Miss Renn Riley popular young people of Graettinger were married at Catholic church Monday at 8 am officiated by Father Kelly. Best man was Mr Milea Riley, brides maid Miss Mac Hamilton. Mrs Elizabeth Spies played organ. After ceremony guests at bride east of town for breakfast. They leave for a wedding trip to Dubuque and eastern towns and will farm east of town on Broom place. The Times extends congratulations.
Mr Charles Sloniker son of Mr and Mrs Wm Sloniker east of Organd and Mika Anita Dulin daughter of Mr Peter Dulin southwest of Graettinger were married at the Danish Lutheran church in South Walnut township last evening. Rev Axel M Andersen officiated. Harald Duhn brother of the bride was best man and Miss Leona Sloniker sister of the groom brides maid. They will reside on a farm east of Osgood. The bride, a popular local worker, held clerical posts at Schurmann Grocery and Christensen Variety. The Times offers congratulations and wishes them health wealth and happiness.

A community basket social is announced for Monday evening February 24 in Jack Crack District No 4. The event will take place about a mile north and east of Graettinger. Local residents are invited to attend hosted by Wally and Miss Wilma Gronatal in the choir area.
Emmatabun becomes the mecca for Palo Alto basketball fans as the county tournament opens Friday evening with school teams competing for honors. Graettinger hosts West Bend in a 21 to 16 win noted as a top local matchup, with drawing at 5 pm Friday and games listed across Friday and Saturday. Referee W I Naden of Webster City will oversee the drawing and preliminary rounds, while Graettinger eyes potential hard games Saturday.
Mrs Spies of this place received news of the death of her sister Mrs Boye in Munich Germany at age 80. Her husband Dr Boye died in 1904. Mrs Boye was mother to Adolph Boye German ambassador to China and former mint comptroller. Another son Dr Carl Boye led Germany’s medical staff in the war and served Madam Schumann Heink. A daughter Mrs Lindned of Munich also survives with husband Dr Fritz Lindned secretary of his portfolio. Mrs Spies receives local sympathy from Graettinger friends.

Letter from 0¢ McAllister in Goldsboro North Carolina dated February 7 1926 describes the city population around 15000 a clean city with five schools three white two colored. He notes tobacco and textile mill activity including cotton and hosiery mills and a foundry, plus a furniture factory. He mentions tobacco sales totaling 6 449 245 pounds valued at 1 304 049 90 dollars, and details his wife working in a cotton mill. He plans to return to Iowa around July.
