Graettinger toppled Lake Park 28 to 19 in a fast paced gym clash after extra minutes amid heavy wrestling of passes and sharp shooting. Graettinger girls defeated Rodman 19 to 3 as local rivals showcased talent and coaching by Milas Farquhar.

Wagner Sells Graetting Pool Hall to Sevdy

John P. Wagner disposed of his Graetting pool hall and lunch counter to C. T. Sevdy last week. Wagner retains possession of the building. Sevdy, recently from Tulso Washington, has lived here many years and is well known locally. Wagner had been in business in Graettinger for years with liberal patronage and prosperity. No permanent arrangements for the future have been announced.

Weather Report For The Weak California

Weather continued through Friday and Saturday with a change on Sunday morning. Snow fell during the day and again Monday but no wind prevented drifting. By Wednesday evening the weather was pleasant and the snow was melting toward the Gulf. Main roads were in good condition though Sunday and Monday ruts and light snow made highways treacherous for driving.

Graettinger High School basketball is entered in the Spirit Lake tournament set for early March. The Graettinger boys are becoming a fast, enduring quintet in northwest Iowa and should win several games on the Spirit Lake floor. They also plan to travel to Iowa City for the state tournament.

Emmet Moore Dies After Farm Accident

Emmet Moore died yesterday at Estherville hospital around four o'clock. He had suffered a broken leg two to three weeks earlier while helping his son on the farm. The injury was painful and the fracture severe. He received hospital care but complications developed, surprising local friends who thought he was recovering. No further details were learned.

Fathers Reception Draws Large Parent Teachers Crowd

Monday evening the Parent Teachers association held a fathers reception at Mr. and Mrs. Christianson’s west town home. About eighty guests enjoyed an evening of music, declamation, and speaking with papers on school affairs and organized parent teacher cooperation. The program included Arlene Myhre’s humor piece The Circus, a piano duet, and a jury scene from A Gentle Jury. Refreshments followed and guests departed after social time praising the hosts hospitality.

The M E Ladies Aid society will hold a plant sale at Mrs. Franklin's home on Thursday February 17 with a ten cent lunch during the afternoon. Members are asked to bring plants thimbles and needles for sale and the public is invited. John Jackman bought a 240 acre farm near Wallingford at auction for 161 per acre, noting it as his final Iowa land purchase. Calvin Gammon starred for Armstrong in a basketball loss to Estherville 88 to 30, scoring 22 points with 11 baskets.

Basket Social Friday at Vernon District No.3 School

Grant Giffin Found Guilty in First Degree

The Estherville jury verdicts Grant Giffin guilty of murder in the first degree and recommended a life sentence. Attorney J E Williams of Mason City asked for a new trial with a hearing set for February 21. Richards Wing Match at Wallingford Ends in Three Falls

George Richards of Wallingford defeated Harold Salisbury in a handicap match lasting about ten minutes with three falls. Gerald Reed beat a boy named Stread in two falls in a quick prelim. Reeves Beats Zybisko in Exhibition Bout for Purse

Hamsen of Spirit Lake, a 290 pound six foot one challenger, visited Grachtinger last week and sought a $200 purse to wrestle Ben F Reeves. Preliminary plans were made and Reeves pinned the opponent’s shoulders for a decisive fall ending Zbysko’s championship hopes. The visitor revealed his name was Hamsen, not Zbysko.
