Farmers Bank Closed Saturday in Estherville Region
The Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Graettinger closed its doors Saturday morning on orders from President J. P. Kirby of Estherville. The move follows troubles in Estherville that led to the closing of the Iowa Savings Bank and other local banks. Officials expect a reorganization to reopen the Graettinger bank within weeks, with assets and liabilities soon listed by state banking examiners. Depositors were initially shocked but cautiously hopeful that one hundred cents on the dollar could be preserved through local support.

Griffith Jones a 12 year old son of Max and Mrs John H Jones of Sioux Rapids was killed instantly when the truck he rode in tipped over on a slippery icy road. The father drove the truck and escaped injury. The funeral was held yesterday with a large crowd in attendance. The family, long known in Cynettinger, had moved to Linn Grove and later to a farm near Sioux Rapids. Griffith remembered as bright and playful, survived by parents, three brothers, two sisters, and sister Elizabeth employed in Jensen Cafe.
