Sandvig promoted to assistant cashier at Farmers & Merchants Bank reflecting his industry. K. S. Stoakes resigns to join a Des Moines firm, taking a northwest territory. Donald Hendricks is hired to fill Sandvig’s vacancy after graduating from Grattan High School with plans to become a valuable employee for the institution.
D E McCarty was unanimously re elected manager of the Shipping Association at a Tuesday board meeting. Bert Anderson and Fred Graattinger were applicants. McCarty has served since the association formed and helped organize a statewide network despite low prices, with over $200000 paid to local shippers. The bureau meeting is scheduled for February 10.

In Graettinger High School’s assembly on Tuesday evening Miss Rosalie Laughlin won Dramatic, Miss Ina Harrington Humorous, and Stanley Gardner Oratorical. Miss Harrington was named first overall to represent the school in the sub district contest. Judges included Miss Ivmy Farquhar Estherville Mrs Atlan Seattle and Rev C J Mekkelauty. Lucille Cole directed the program which featured readings like Molly's Boy and Spartacus to the Gladiators among others.
Members of the M. B. Ladies AGU society host a cafeteria lunch and program at Woodman Hall Monday evening February 6. Meals served from 6:30 with a program at 8. The event includes songs, selections, a biographical sketch, and a short talk followed by a country luncheon for rural attendees. Public invited.
The Times reports Ray Wikert, badly injured the week of the accident, is getting along nicely. He was taken to Coleman hospital in Estherville Thursday and a morning telephone update says he is on the road to recovery and healing as well as could be expected. Local Grad finger friends express relief at his improving condition.
Two weeks after publishing the re elected directors at the annual First National Bank meeting an omission was found. The republication lists directors as L Brown president Fred Spies vice president John Jart son cashier John Mitchell A Johnson and P Montgomery.
Market day sale set for Graettinger on Saturday February 4 features live stock all heads cattle and hogs plus farm machinery wet goods and similar items. Inducements offered to visitors merchants promise special offers. Sale conducted by M C Grodland at his safe yards one block south of the flag pole with clerks from both banks officiating.
A small boy, son of Mr and Mrs Petar McMahon of Emmetsburg, was struck by an automobile on a Sunday. Initial reports suggested no injuries but further investigation indicated unspecified injuries.
Graettinger edged Superior 42 to 38 on Superior's floor in a hard fought game. Gabrielson starred for Graettinger with 18 points, while Sullivan Harrington and Elsenbst contributed key plays. The win marked Superior’s first defeat after a long unbeaten stretch. Graettinger travels Friday to Lake Park for another high school clash.
Emmetsburg squads suffered a 11 to 1 loss at Whittemore while St. Marys and High School boys also played, highlighting the town and schools’ lack of a regular organization and no suitable place to practice or play this year.
Northwest Iowa auctions are few this winter with scattered sales in Graettinger and nearby towns. South Walnut Church notes list funeral for Mrs. Peter Jensen, church services, Danish language gatherings, and confirmation classes starting February 11. Methodist and Lutheran notices include Sunday School, worship services, Epworth League events, and a Bible study led by Mr and Mrs Ward Noble.
Mrs Peter Jensen died Tuesday evening after several months of illness. She was taken to Eatherville hospital but doctors said no treatment could help. The funeral will be held Saturday with services at her residence at one and at the South Walnut church at two.
The Legion card party and dance at the Hawkeye last evening drew seventy attendees despite a severe blizzard. Chuck's orchestra could not perform due to weather, but Le Roy Bartleman Miss Noble and Lloyd Lippold provided excellent music. Refreshments were served at 10:30 by Service Star Legion members.
Mr and Mrs Frank Brown mourn the death of their three days old son who died Saturday. The funeral was held Sunday morning and interment took place in the cemetery north of town. Services were conducted by Rev C J Mekkeleon, pastor of the M E church. The Browns have the sympathy of many friends in their misfortune.
The editor reports coal selling for 1.25 per ton at the mines in Mendon North Dakota dated January 30 1922. The writer notes heavy snow and cold weather with decent roads for sleigh travel and mentions living eight miles from the mines. Also references sending a check for the Times for 1922 and signs as E A Taylox.
A H Shaver presented two oil paintings to the reporter one depicting an Indian maiden and the other an alarm scene. The works were described as splendid and Shaver is regarded as a real artist. They are currently on display at M Weintholzer jewelry store.
A week of steady cool air gave way to rain Tuesday night and snow early Wednesday. The forecast shows the air growing colder with prospects for a real storm as current conditions bring snow and continued unsettled weather.
The school begins a fresh term with changed schedules and rooms. Seniors study Social Problems, economics, bookkeeping, civics, while juniors face arithmetic, modern history, American history, and English literature. The basketball team beat Superior 66 00% Graettinger notes, and the upcoming game at Lake Park is mentioned.
