Prophylaxis for Tuberculosis in Children
The author outlines general and special precautions to reduce TB exposure in children. Key points include breastfeeding for resistance, careful feeding to avoid over or under nutrition, avoidance of alcohol, exercise to strengthen muscles and lungs, prompt treatment of nasal or throat infections, and early removal of enlarged tonsils. Minimize contact with TB carriers, inspect and sun the environment, and avoid messy milk via tuberculin-tested cattle. Special notes touch on eugenics, future health screening, and the ideal of a “herd book” before marriage, with cautions about nursing and cow milk in infancy.
