Senior Master Sergeant Donald A. Firkins Graduates At Gunter
Senior Master Sergeant Donald A. Firkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maynard H. Firkins of Emmetsburg Iowa, completed the U S Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Gunter AFB Alabama. Over nine weeks he gained advanced study in management techniques behavioral science and contemporary issues to prepare for higher responsibility. He returns to Tinker AFB Oklahoma as air traffic control superintendent with the 3rd Mobile Communications Squadron, under the Air Force Communications Service. The sergeant a 1952 Rolfe High School graduate, is married to Rosa daughter of Mrs. Mabel Bruce of Edmond Oklahoma.

Woman's Club annual Christmas buffet supper held
Thirty four Graettinger Woman's Club members met at Pat Gould's home on Monday December 3rd at 7 00 pm for a Christmas buffet supper. Punch was served by Nancy Nelson and decorations graced the buffet table. After a brief business meeting Dena King and Kay Smothers were elected into membership. A motion proposed sending gifts for Cherokee if radio station KICD did not sponsor the Gifts for Cherokee drive this year, with gifts to be sent to the Emmet County Home at Estherville.

Priebe calls for energy savings in state government
State Senator Bert Priebe of Algona urged Governor Ray and Lt. Governor Neu to end all interim legislative study committees after December 13. He argued that citizens are sacrificing to conserve energy and government must lead by curtailing trips to Des Moines by committee members to save fuel.

Local girl shines in Morningside opera presentation
Gian Carlo Menotti's The Unicorn the Gorgon and the Manticore was staged in Eppley Auditorium by Morningside College Music and Drama Departments. Director Donald Gillespie led a 19 person chorus with Chamber Singers plus 10 instrumentalists and 10 dancers. Lois Fries, daughter of Mr and Mrs Tom Fries of Graettinger, sang in the chorus.
