Omaha Green Goblins, a tape colored baseball group, were recently in Northwest Town baseball rounds when they hooked up with Swan City and received shots 4 to 0.
Committees finalize plans for Labor Day with reports at the Bachelor Club rooms. Aiming for a top class program including baseball, wrestling, street attractions, and a keynote address by J W Jarnigan. Grubmeyer and Ruble to wrestle. admission nine cents. Mrs Slagle wins second prize in Des Moines Capital contest.
Fragmentary notes describe remodeling Camp Dodge into a State Encampment for the National Guard. Mentions parade grounds, facilities, and general upgrades though several phrases are garbled.
The Grasttingar public schools will open Monday September 5th. Pupils entering the High School or Freshmen should report at 9 a m on Friday September 2nd. Teaching personnel include Miss Clara Larsen and others from Iowa State Teachers College and nearby institutions. Also noted is the Odd Fellows Conclave in Kansas City September 2nd to 4th with events, parades, and degree ceremonies.
A crowd gathered at Hands Park lake to watch pilot Shiflett perform stunt flights including skimming water with the aeroplane wheels. The plane nose-dived after a glide with engines off. Shiflett escaped uninjured and later appeared on the diving platform. Observers warned that contacting the wheel rims against water is dangerous, and the incident marked one of three planes in a summer show by Parcaut the wrestler’s venture.
City Manager Connely suffered a severe head injury and a shoulder wound when a tripod rig collapsed on Lincoln Street during street work. Brought to Birney hospital by driver Dr. Birney, he remained conscious briefly, with fears of skull fracture but no internal injuries evident.
The following ladies and gentlemen I will serve as petit Jurors during the next term of court beginning Monday, August 29, 1921. List includes Eva Miller, Emmetsburg, Ruthven, Curlew, West Bend, Graettinger, Mallard, Whittemore, Emmetsburg, and many others. A Danish Ladies Bazaar will be held in the basement of the He Saturday, Augusta, with a bazaar and supper to follow.
W T Stevens Auction Sale August 27 Graettinger features a four room cottage with improvements and household goods relocation to Oklahoma. Reeveas Keater auctioneers and Vincent Kelly clerk. Carnahan sale September 7 lists livestock horses cows machinery with usual terms and one year at eight percent. J A Nelson assist, Reeves Keator listed as auctioneers. Ad to appear in a future issue.
Lavi Kaltved announces a sale of 30 head of big type Polands at his Graettinger area farm east of town on Monday September 26. The dealer advertises a splendid assortment of choice hogs of the very best breeding and invites all interested buyers to attend on sale date.
Church notices urge regular attendance as six Sundays remain before conference. Dr Bushnell is expected to preach Sunday morning the 28th and quarterly conference is set for Tuesday evening the 30th. The theme for next Sunday at five is The Witness of the Spirit. Sunday School picnic planned for Lost Island Lake on the 24th.
Danieh Lutheran Church announces Danish language services at South Walnut in the forenoon at 10:90 and English evening services at 8. Next Wednesday the Ladies Aid meets at Mrs. P. L. Duhn’s home in the afternoon, the Young Peoples Society meets there in the evening. On Saturday the 27th the Ladies Aid holds a bazaar in the Hawkeye Theatre basement in Grasttinger. Rev. H. P. K. Hangen, Pastor.
Lutheran church schedules morning and afternoon English language services next Sunday with Rev Sandeé and Student Tyelt-Rev. Berviess to lead at Grachtinger and Tost Taland locations.
The Hy Lutheran Zion Congregation will hold services Sunday August 21 at 2:15 PM at the Methodist Church. Rev. J B Andreae will preach.
