The War Shipping Administration commends Able Seaman Kenneth George Neilson for Meritorious Service aboard SS JOHN HOWARD PAYNE in March 1945. He aided in locating possible survivors of an Army plane wreck in the Pacific, with a hazardous night search, raft rescue, and boat recovery under rough seas and heavy swells. Wedding at Brass Rail stadium marked by radio coverage
A wedding in a strange city tied to Eleanor Mavon and Darrel Dotson was held at the Brass Rail restaurant in Memphis with Waldemar J. LaSalle coordinating a unique ceremony. The couple, both employed there, were joined before a radio show broadcast and then Dotson began work at the Brass Rail six months prior. The piece also reports a farm accident near Ledyard killing Mrs Glen Johnson and injuries to her husband and children, plus several local incidents and upcoming editor events at a county fair with plans for an affordable food-focused program.
