Funeral Of Andrew Nelson Held Saturday

The Graettinger area mourns Andrew Nelson 49, longtime farmer, who died July 24 1935 after a paralytic stroke. He married Trey Knutson in 1908 and left no children, survived by a wife, three sisters and three brothers. Funeral services were at the realtones and St Pauls Lutheran with interment in South Walnut cemetery.

Tilton Guthrie Players Open Four Night Stand in Emmetsburg

The Tilton Guthrie company returns to Emmetsburg for four evenings starting August 1 in the large theater. A seven piece orchestra will perform each night with vaudeville between acts. Pilon will attend the performances on August 1 2 3 4.

May Establish Co-Operative Bank Here

An organizer for a co operative bank has visited Graettinger twice in the past week and another banking institution may be organized in the city. The organizer recently finished Nebraska and is now organizing Iowa. A co operative bank is called a poor man's bank. Loans are made through a depositors' committee with long term losses exceptionally low. Net earnings are pro rated among depositors at year end.

Truck traffic on main street irks peaceful town

The Fonda town council posts signs banning truck stopping loading and unloading on main street. Out of town drivers cause disruption as large vehicles block sidewalks and roar engines to gain curb space. A Livermore Gazette report notes local pedestrians could handle deliveries more quietly.

O H Raleigh reports the sale of the eighty acre improved tract on Highway 17 adjoining the William Lammera eighty to James Jacobsen. Also sold is the Ole Oleven quarter near the South Walnut church including the intervening forty acres belonging to the Federal Land Bank at Omaha to Otto Appel. Elmer Olson repurchased the home farm northeast of Graettinger, a well located property in a good locality.

Labor Day Committee Plans Revealed At City Hall

A Monday night meeting of Labor Day chairmen and committee members at City Hall outlined plans for the upcoming celebration. The printed roster lists committees including Chairman D. Be McCarty and Secretary Max Baumgartner with members across executive, France, speaker, attractions, baseball, street sports, band, concessions, license, dance, distribution, advertising, and boxing.

Boxing Fans Praise Local Men After Graettinger Fight

Boxing fans packed Graettinger Thursday night for the Vogl Bennett match. The card was canceled in the morning yet fans supported the promoters and would have disliked a substitute. The air cooled after a shower and promoters kept good will despite an expensive card.

Mr and Mrs Walter Allen and daughters Edna and Lucille of Shelton Washington with Delores Gallager of Cedar Rapids Iowa and Mrs John Gallager of Emmaburg visited John J Sullivan home Tuesday. They had spent weeks with relatives in Palo Alto and Des Moines and started the return trip to Shelton Wednesday morning.

Fifty Corn Fed Steers To Supply Threshers' Needs

Carl Miller of the IGA store bought fifty corn fed steers from D C Barringer to butcher for threshing orders. He plans to process them in the next two weeks. Normally he slaughters about ten head weekly but expects twenty six during the busy season, and high meat quality with low prices may prevent delivering threshing orders this season.

Interest Loans Drop to 4 Percent Under Farm Credit Act

The Farm Credit act cuts Federal Land bank loan interest to 4 percent for two years, saving Iowa farmers over 3.3 million dollars in the coming year. About 28,500 farmers with $185 million in land bank loans benefit, with rates rising back to 4 percent after July 1938. commissioner loans stay at 6 percent.
