Rural doctor shortage prompts Iowa plan to aid Graettinger

Editorial urges Graettinger residents to back a Senate bill aimed at easing rural doctor shortages. The measure would reserve first year medical school slots and residency positions for students agreeing to practice in underserved areas, with federal scholarships and flexibility to correct specialty imbalances. It notes Iowa faces a doctor deficit and maldistribution, urging action to keep doctors in state and serve rural communities. The piece links the issue to Graettinger’s goal of a local medical facility and calls for letters to Washington urging support.
