A new book claims machines ruin the world. It was written on a typewriter and printed on a high speed press. Joseph and Lucile Hassel of Ottawa HL sent greetings to Graettinger friends while mailing their annual renewal to the Times.
Banker Kennedy of New Hampshire warned Iowa towns to grow or die, urging meaningfully that weaker communities will fail while stronger survive. Graettinger shows promise as a survivor with supportive trade area and local leadership, despite rural population decline. Boost Graettinger.
The April 40 1961 Wisdom Divine Lesson explores why God condemns Job’s friends yet praises Job. It argues wisdom means recognizing limits of human questioning, acknowledging God’s supremacy, and avoiding advice to the divine. It notes Job’s humility and concludes Christian faith centers on accepting God as Father and Love, the ultimate wisdom.
St James Minnesota April 19 1961 Graettinger Times editor Graettinger Iowa Dear Sir I have just returned from my brother s funeral N S Bartleman and while it is still fresh I want to say a few words for Graettinger and community Nate and I ran a bar ber shop there in partnership for about 18 years so I of course was acquainted with and knew a lot of people in your city Nate s sudden death was a shock to us all I had not been in Graettinger very many times in the past 21 years I want to say you have the best people in the world there I met so many old friends and received so many sympathetic greetings it greatly eased the loss of my dear brother People were so nice and friendly I could wish I lived there yet You certainly have a fine community spirit there and I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your thoughtfulness and sympathy I was amazed at the fine funeral home you have there and the excellent service rendered by Mr Martin and Mr Knutsen in handling everything so efficiently Also thanks to Rev R Grote the Methodist Ladies Aid and the wonderful lunch and treatment received and all my old friends God bless you

Graettinger adds two new teachers Lilian Tinkle and Alys Thoreson. Local officials discuss paving state road 17 from Robbins Ave to Emmet line. Work continues on road bed between Wallingford and Palo Alto line.
City Library announces readings and displays with non fiction Our Share of Morning by Paul Burmett. The memoir covers an Austrian family fleeing Nazis and a mathematician Dr Paul Burmett and his wife Alice, set against wartime peril.
The Burmett family fled Austria for France to escape Navi brutality but faced deportation, leaving behind their home with a disabled child Mignon. They crossed mountains by night toward neutral Switzerland, narrowly escaping deportation twice before finally succeeding. Their perilous trek highlights refugee peril during wartime.
