Keep Up The Hog Cholera Fight
Dr. Maynard Spear of Iowa State University urges continued support for hog cholera eradication. Iowa began the campaign in 1962 with four phases and shows steady declines in confirmed cases from 190 in 1964 to 51 in 1967. Phase three, begun last July, depopulates infected herds with indemnities paid. 29 herds were depopulated in six months. The target is eradication in Iowa by 1969 and a cholera-free United States by 1972. Producers should report signs immediately and follow swine movement rules.
