Willoughby Police Fund Own Equipment Through Dances

In Willoughby Ohio the police raise funds themselves to buy equipment and pay for upgrades. Since 1944 the force has spent about nine thousand dollars on items including an ambulance with radio gear and resuscitation equipment, two way radios, and cruiser gear funded by benefit dances and local business support. Surplus funds are shared for uniforms and a portion supports village recreation programs. Chief Robert Collins notes limited village funds necessitate self funding to keep efficiency high.
