Plan Polio Shots For 234 Needy Palo Alto Children
The State Health Department will supply Sauk polio vaccine in spring to inoculate 234 needy Palo Alto County children aged 3 to 12. Each child will receive two shots, in April and late May, at doctors offices for $1 per shot. Vaccination aims to cover the summer and fall polio period with seven months of immunity, with doses released by County Nurse Avonell Rutherford.

Wool Incentive Payments May Equal Forty Percent Of Price
Incentive payments under the government wool program for the marketing year ending March 2 may average about 40 percent of the average price growers received for their wool. In Palo Alto county 206 applications have been filed in Emmetsburg. Producers have until month end to apply for sales completed by March 31. The 1955 marketing year average price is expected to be about 44 cents per pound grease basis, with final reports not likely to change the outlook. If the trend holds, a producer could estimate a 40 percent incentive payment, roughly 70 cents per hundredweight for lambs sold slaughter. Deductions of one cent per pound from wool payments and five cents per hundredweight from lamb payments will fund wool and lamb marketing.
