Thieves Enter Four Wallingford Business Houses

Four Wallingford stores were entered by burglars Thursday night. At Joe A. Haring General Store a safe door was pried and $25.70 taken from a pigeon hole. other locations yielded no valuables. Sheriff notified. pursuers found no culprits. A boxing carnival is planned for April 24 at the Emmetsburg Armory with a card including Terry Butt and Battling Terry among others.

Orland Trego Dies of Pneumonia Following Flu

Orland Trego, about 25, died at his Waterloo home after pneumonia from a preceding influenza. He worked last winter for Henry Wobbie and the Trego family formerly ran a city restaurant before moving to Lake Park and then Waterloo. He was unmarried and well known locally.

Organized Northwest Iowa Thefts Target Several Towns

Thieves active in northwest Iowa with entries into shops in Mallard Wallingford Bode Whittemore and other towns over the past two weeks. An organized gang suspected as stores near Spencer were robbed for more than a thousand dollars. Peace officers are vigilant and expect arrests soon.

Former Lost Island Man Dies in Minnesota

A C Anderson longtime Lost Island township resident died in Minnesota the first of the week. The body shipped to Graettinger arrived Wednesday morning and was taken to his son Hans Anderson’s home in the town’s northeast. The funeral was to be held either today or tomorrow as relatives from distances gathered and exact timing was not known at press time.

Affirmative Victors In Railroad Debate

The high school PTA debate on government ownership and operation of railroads ended with the affirmative team winning. Vincent Kelly Mrs. John C. Jertson and Ben Fr Reeves spoke for the affirmative, while J A Spies Mrs. J H Gammon and Herman El Renbast argued the negative. Judges ruled three to for the affirmative. Music accompanied the program. Thomas Kelly of Emmetsburg, cousin to Vincent Kelly, won first in the state oratorical contest, a notable honor for the Emmetsburg schools.

Family Narrowly Survives Gas Leak at Arnolds Park

In Arnolds Park a faulty trap let odorless gas into a bathroom nearly killing the W. K. Taylor family. Four year old Shirley coughed, Mr Taylor fainted, then revived by Margaret and Mrs Taylor. He fainted again, doors opened, gas expelled, saving the family.
