Des Moines Describes Fair Grounds Restoration Start
Work began on the Des Moines fair grounds as Army-usage ends and preparations start for the Centenary State Fair set for August next year. Officials estimate over a third of a million dollars for the statewide celebration plus half a million to restore grounds and buildings. Ten major army storage buildings require extensive remodeling as crews convert facilities back for fair use. Plans include exhibits on 100 years of town life, livestock shows, 4 H events, women's expo, machinery displays, and many other centennial features with major organizations participating.
