City purchases chemical fire engine for Graettinger

The first March meeting of Graettinger council approved buying a new chemical fire engine from Notts Chemical Company of Minneapolis for 450 dollars. It arrived Saturday, placed in the city fire house, and 400 pounds of chemicals were donated. The engine, tested Tuesday, aims to reduce fire spread where hoses cannot reach, saving expense on water mains. Also, a Market Day Sale last Saturday drew a larger crowd and higher receipts, with Henry Rathman first in eggs and John Conway bringing the largest load of people. Total receipts exceeded 1700 dollars, while Peter Miller’s house sale failed to meet bids. Wallingford held a successful sale Monday.
