County Federation Meeting At Mallard

The county federation of Women's clubs will hold its regular monthly meeting at Mallard on Saturday April 19. A covered dish luncheon will be served at noon followed by an afternoon program. Everyone is welcome. Blake McMacken will be tried in Emmetaburg district court beginning April 19 on a first degree murder charge for the Haying of William Bobbit and William Laughlin. He was moved from the county hospital to the jail recently and is described as weak but seemingly holding up.

Found Roads Good On 1 000 Mile Auto Trip

Mr and Mrs M C Grodland and Joe McCulloch completed a 1000 mile round trip from Graettinger to Ellendale North Dakota en route home. They report very good road conditions from Graettinger north and west and note Minnesota gas prices lower than Iowa. They visited Grodlands father who was ill but improved. Luella Keith ailing child of Archie Keith is critically ill. The party stayed a day with Lawrence Thoreson in Slayton Minnesota during return.

Light turnout marks Walnut township school election

District No. 4 Walnut township held a Saturday school election with about 400 eligible voters and only 25 ballots cast as impassable roads hindered participation. Voters decided to keep existing school locations, use on hand funds to construct new school houses, and approve selling the old buildings.
