Curly Cues on Pasture Fertilizing and Sheep Drenching
Curly Cues discusses pasture fertilization benefits including earlier grazing and yield boosts. It recommends 20 to 40 pounds of nitrogen per acre for bluegrass and 60 to 80 pounds for orchardgrass and bromegrass with 10 to 20 pounds of phosphorus every two years. For nitrogen sources, injection spacing should not exceed eight inches with anhydrous ammonia. It notes Palo Alto county lamb producers may profit by drenching ewes for stomach worms before turning out on grass, citing Extension Veterinarian John B. Herrick who advises 1 ounce phenothiazine per ewe.

Phenothiazine Drench for Ewes Before Pasture
About ten days before pasture the mixture uses one pound of dry phenothiazine in 1 percent quarts of water with finely ground material. Veterinarians help sheepmen obtain the drug. This improves feed efficiency and milk for lambs and reduces worm transfer. Late spring lambs need no drench. early December and January lambs may require one half ounce.
