Beary Hoeler writes from North East Carry Maine describing a deer camp in November 1917. He reports ten deer sighted, slow to come down, and shares camp life, meals, cedar swamps, rough country, and humorous mishaps. Hoeler hints at returning home November 28 and promises another letter.
A Grabil l town hall meeting last Tuesday formed a Grabill branch of the Ft Wayne Red Cross chapter. Ft Wayne guest Ne Hamilton spoke on sewing and Red Cross work while Mrs Sales from Ft Wayne discussed knitted garments. Officers include Grace Klopfenstein chairwoman Ada Hilty secretary Benle Lesith treasurer Minnie Abbott director. Mrs J E Rippey named to executive committee. Next meeting date to be announced in the Review.
Mrs E F Claveer and children and son Paul mentioned dining with David Grabill and wife Sunday. Joseph Witmer Sr transacted business at Ft Wayne Monday.
Allen County fuel administrator inspected Grabill coal operations and praised J F Hollopeter for selling coal below government prices as a patriotic duty. He plans to aid Indiana soft coal delivery via Hollopeter as agent, with coal priced around 875 per ton and orders accepted to assist those in destitute circumstances. Bertha Ametuts works for General Electric in Fort Wayne.
At the plowing contest held at the State farm near Ft Wayne yesterday prices were awarded to Cedar Creek and Perry township farmers. Yellow corn F. E. Tonkes third G. W. McComb fifth G. W. Tonkes sixth White corn Joseph Tonkel second Single yellow ear P. E. Tonkel second.
Gerry and Frances spent the weekend with Mr. David Rediger and family in Plonecer Ohio. Dr. Sarah Edith Davis from Indianapolis visited Dr. and Mrs. O. K. Hilty, former classmates of Indiana Dental College. Frank Thimlar and family called on J. F. Hello peter family's Sunday afternoon.
Nov 4 dispatch notes changes on westbound passenger 51 and eastbound No 54 with new times 5 18 p m and alterations to No 55. Remaining trains 54 and 55 retain most schedules with minor adjustments to Sundays service and other accommodations.
