Mrs. E J Mentzer of Goshen died after being struck by a car at Harrison street and Fifth avenue in Chicago. She was 45, survived by husband Claude and four daughters, and was hospitalized with multiple injuries before succumbing to internal hemorrhage. Remains expected in Goshen at 4 56 PM, as driver J C Mack faces possible rearrest amid crowd tension.

Dr. Nelson D Brayton of the Indiana board of health toured South Bend Mishawaka and found 25 smallpox cases in Mishawaka with one death. Every school child and about 800 factory workers are ordered vaccinated as officials warn the disease may spread. Elkhart is reported free.

Lake Shore freight wreck halts eastbound trains near town
