Child Burned in Barn Fire Near South Bend
West of South Bend, Mr and Mrs James Houe left three children at home while two went to school. A three year old girl lit matches igniting a straw stack. the blaze reached the barn and cremated the child, burned the barn, three horses, grain and farming implements. The parents found the charred remains upon return, unaware a child had perished. The isolated Houe place had no witnesses to the fire.
