In Goshen, Indiana, Justice Whisler found for Sylvanus C. Hartman in an assault case with Samuel Neterer, ruling there was no cause of action. Hartman claimed self defense after a dog incident and a lantern was used, with 12 stitches required for Neterer’s forehead.
The sixteenth annual Elkhart county W C T U session in Middlebury ends this evening with a gold medal contest featuring eight contestants including Miss Joy Bechtel. Jonas Shively’s funeral held at the German Baptist church this morning. Notre Dame scrubs beat South Bend high 30 to 0 and open against Monmouth. The city hails efforts to marry couples free of charge for 30 days by Hammond mayor A F Knotts.

Singer a major stockholder in the Singer Manufacturing Co is dead in Atlantic City New Jersey at age noted as having retired from active business several years ago The passing removes a key figure in the famed firm founded by his family line and signals an end of an era in American manufacturing history.
The mortuary notice reports E. Davis died Wednesday in Homer. The South Bend Times notes the wedding of Harry B Skillman and Nina Beatrice Fralick on Wednesday evening at 8 at the home of the bride’s parents 719 West Colfax avenue Rev Henry Webb Johnson officiating. The couple plans a honeymoon trip to various points then reside in St Paul where Skillman is a legal editor.

Miss Louise Dresser stars in the new comedy drama by Bronson & Norworth set for an opening at Goshen this evening. Former vaudeville leading lady with Ward & Vokes, she brings a sweet voice and magnetic stage presence to the role of Ernie in California, after success in top vaudeville houses nationwide. The producers’ offer drew strong praise for her talent and appeal.
Chas A. Aitken a Washington township Democrat runs for auditor. Aitken comes from a respected family and is described as conversant with the duties of the office. He is the son in law of John Stoutenour of Nappanee.
Invitations have gone to automobile owners in Kendallville for Governor's day on Oct. 3 and extended to LaGrange Steuben Noble and DeKalb counties. An interurban car from Goshen hit a horse team on South Main in Elkhart. the horses were frightened but suffered only minor injuries.
