Pioneer Dead Jonas Shively Dies at 77
Jonas Shively an Elkhart county pioneer died at his home in this city at 3 o clock this morning from a complication of diseases aged 77. Born in Stark county July 14 1825 he came to this county in 1845 and later operated a furniture plant in Waterford. He moved to Goshen where he resided until his death. He was married June 5 1851 to Hester Miller and leaves eight children. Funeral Friday at 10 am at the German Baptist church.

Fire Claims Child as Woman Burned at Michigan City
A fire at Mrs. Anna Becker’s home in Michigan City killed her two year old Leonard Becker who died from burns while mother Anna suffered injuries while attempting rescue. A crowd attended a Ben Hur lodge spelling school and hop in McNaughton hall despite poor weather and later refreshments were served. Prof. Hering spoke at Millersburg and Syracuse last evening.
