Murder in Chicago Alley Ends Hartman's Life
Peter Hartman of Kosciusko County was murdered in the alley behind Silverman's saloon at 25 State Street Chicago after a struggle with three robbers. Police found $33 on him and believe he arrived from Dekalb on a Nickel Plate train. Hartman, about 50, was poorly dressed and suspected to have been drinking. Two suspects have been arrested as Chicago searches for the others.

Sunday excursion business holds steady despite cold
The cold weather yesterday did not hurt excursion business as Agent Docer sold 41 tickets to Benton Harbor via the Big Four. Two heavy trains passed through town from Anderson and points south of Wabash while St Joe remained frigid and visitors hugged hotels. A fall wind made conditions unpleasant, but the Big Four excursion schedule is likely to continue until October.
