Napanee Advance reports Goshen baseball team beat Napanee 5 to 0 in Goshen. Goshen featured five strong returning players plus Witt Bolton and two Kellys, while Napanee struggled with errors and fielding, aided by favorable umpire calls and luck.
Frank Miller of Goshen was awarded the contract to remove the jail smoke stack, build a new one, and perform boiler and fuel room repairs for $3,479. The appropriation by the county council was $3,500.
The High School Athletic association held its first reorganizational meeting yesterday with Prof. Bremer presiding. Officers named include President Roy Replogle, Vice President Roy Messick, Secretary Cleis Starr, and Szt. at Arms Carlisle Valiette. Guys Kessler and Sam Starbuck were chosen managers of the football and baseball teams respectively. Louise Beane was elected an honorary member.
Invitations have been sent by Elkhart high school seniors for a promenade on September 13 at Hoffmans hall. Miss Katherine Fink attended a luncheon hosted by Miss Florence Reynolds of South Bend as a pre nup tial event to Miss Ethel Cleis. Mr and Mrs L H Nusbaum and daughter Mae were in Elkhart for the wedding of Miss Bertha Holmes to Mr Justy Fultz. The groom is a printer and the bride known in Goshen. The dog bite incident involving Dr and Mrs A C Yoder daughter is recovering. Sam Burnstein plans to have the dog killed. A son of Frank Hardesty of New Street is seriously ill. Myron Smith is improved after confinement. Mrs George Burridge of North Third Street was operated on.
Mae C. Wood yesterday filed a civil suit in Omaha district court seeking 25000 from United States Senator Thom as C. Platt and the United States Express company for alleged services. Wood previously sued the Old People's Insurance company of Elkhart.
Coming attractions at the Irwin include The Little Red School House next Monday evening followed by A Royal Slave and The Isle of Spice.
Agent Chariton sold forty eight ten day tickets at Lake Shore station this morning for the Petoskey excursion.
Goshen doctors at a local hospital performed a delicate operation on Mrs Helen Preston of Kendallville.
A son was born this morning to Mr. and Mrs. John Winter of East Jefferson Street.
Joseph B. Workman sought 35 percent of collected amounts for hunting sequestered taxable property and sued Grant county where auditors blocked payment citing lack of county council appropriation. In Goshen and nearby discussions, The Democrat noted the commissioners lacked authority for such hires without an appropriation.
Mrs Elizabeth Stafford aged 60 died at her Elkhart home this morning from cancer. She is survived by her husband William A Stafford, one sister and three brothers. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon with burial at Hudson Michigan.
Arrangements for the Four Generations' Reunion at Millersburg on Thursday and Friday of next week are two thirds complete. A special train from Millersburg to Elkhart is being sought for Thursday night at 10 30 and No 23 is to stop at Millersburg Friday at 5 30. Louis Wagner and Sheriff Manning fished at Shipshewana lake during the day.
Bessie Cronin of Valparaiso wins changes of venue from Judge O Rourke for three $50,000 suits against Fort Wayne papers. The Journal-Gazette case moves to Adams County, the Fort Wayne News to Wells County, and the Sentinel to Whitely County.
The Goshen Milling Co. received a cablegram from Christiana Norway for a large shipment of Gerbelle. The firm has long exported flour and the growing foreign clientele is a source of pride for Goshen residents.
A wall between the Brooks building on Washington street and Jones Furniture Store is being cut to grant Jones store a Washington street entrance. Jones will also gain an office in the new building linked with the Culp undertaking rooms.
Frank M. Hayes of Elkhart formerly Goshen married Sunday evening at 8 in Kalamazoo to Miss Cora M. Lewis of Otsego. Justice Fred Mills performed the ceremony. The couple will reside in Elkhart. Hayes is a former employee of The Democrat office.

Gladys Smith six year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Elmer Smith of Elk Heart was fatally burned last evening after her dress caught fire while playing with matches. Firefighters battled flames but she succumbed to injuries as authorities feared she would die.
The Elkhart County Auditor submits a cash transaction report for the month ending August 31 1905 noting council allocations of 120000 dollars and a 25 percent tax levy increase. The document also cites court opinions on Indianapolis gas plant takeover and lists county expenses including insanity care clothing and truant officer salaries.

George W. Hayden formerly of Goshen testified at the Wabash coroner’s inquest about the death of Miss Alta Presaster near Spikerville. He described seeing the Tig well before the crossing and noted that spectators often crowd the track and laugh at engine drivers, complaining that people fail to heed warnings. The engineer said every effort was made to stop the train once it became clear it could not be halted, and the locomotives and coaches stopped shortly after the crossing.
The Hoosier Carnival Co will display in Warsaw with free acts led by a military band and a trapeze performer.
