A Mitchell touring car owned by Bert Evans of south of Bristol was badly damaged after striking trees in the yard of G. J. & Floyd at Bristol. Evans had bought the car from Samuel Swinehart and was driving it at the time of the accident but escaped unharmed.

Indianapolis report states L. H. Wright chairman of the state highway commission was named a member of the Republican national advisory committee by Will R. Hayes, the national chairman. The appointment broadens Wrights involvement in national party affairs.
Mrs Burris of 307 North Main Street shows marked improvement and seems assured of permanent recovery. Miss Edna Enright of Milford underwent an operation at Wesley Hospital Chicago with one kidney readjusted after twelve prior procedures. her mother serves as a nurse at General Hospital Elkhart.
Clem Imus of Mishawaka is jailed for moving from S825 West Calvert to 434 West Grove without a permit. The city council had a new ordinance requiring tenants to obtain a permit before moving within the city, a law now facing constitutional challenge.

William Bartram and his wife ran the Luncheonette cafe which they had just reopened after taking over from Frank Hale. After a drunken quarrel with his wife yesterday afternoon Bartram was cut on the head with a butcher knife. The cafe closed briefly but reopened today under Mrs Bartram with no charges filed. An assistant marshal said no warrant had been issued and investigators sought to identify a source of whiskey. Bartram reportedly procured the liquor in Goshen and consumed most of it.
The Jackie band from Great Lakes Naval Training Station will tour Indiana counties from September 14 to October 1 to promote the Fourth Liberty Loan. It is unclear whether the band will be sent to Gosaen. The city previously hosted a Jackie band concert last spring.
G Max Miller, piloting a large mail plane from New York to Chicago, landed in a field near Cleveland at 2:20 last night after a strong wind drove him 150 miles off course. The aircraft was slightly damaged but Miller was uninjured. He remained in Cleveland overnight and planned to resume the flight to Chicago today.
A Ford, owned by Gee Lantz or related to Lantz of Goshen, was struck on East Lincoln Avenue yesterday at 9:50 AM as it backed from a driveway. A large Illinois touring car driven by a woman collided with it. The Ford sustained rear wheel, fender, and axle damage. occupants reported no injuries.
The Camp Fire Girls announce a Red Cross benefit sale tomorrow in the Spahn building at Lincoln Avenue and Fifth Street. The local chapter asks patrons to support a Belgian baby and other essential Red Cross relief efforts.
A widely circulated report of an explosion at Coppes Brothers and Zook in Nappanee is false. Authorities say no blast occurred at the plant and the tale originated from a garbled description of a four tank explosion at the Nappanee motor car tire hospital.
Funeral services for William D. Platter were held at 3 o'clock this afternoon at 423 South Fifth Street. Rev. Herman S. Reichard of the First Reformed Church and Rev. C Van Der Mel officiated. The body was placed in the Platter-Lowry vault in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Spohn F. E Smith. A 25 cent fee funds permit issuance and display forms for authorized operators under the Federal Fuel Administration order.
The Democratic Party plans to open a Goshen headquarters likely in the Mrs. T. J. Kesler building on West Wincoln avenue, formerly Dr. G. A. Whippy. The general election is eight weeks away on Tuesday Nov. Sun. registration ends Monday October 7 to vote this year.

Todd B. Weller 12 son of William Weller of Huntington was fatally injured when struck by a motor car. His neck was broken in the incident.
