County council adjourned after passing ordinances for 1908 appropriations. No new bridges funded though 15 000 requested. bridge repairs cut to 2 000. Levy set at 50 cents per 100 valuation. Totals show expenditures across county offices and departments totaling 71 194 95.
Miss Ruby Carmien entertained at her South Sixth Street home last evening honoring guests Miss Maude Wallder and Miss Claudine Cole of New York City.
Friends say Allen Barker McKinnis, missing from his north town home for weeks, was seen in Elkhart recently. Parents calm, reports note his sporty habits. Sheriff's office has no confirmation of a Wakarusa custody incident with three Nappanee boys. Rumor says his father went to Wakarusa.
Jasper Kelly, claiming he was drugged with knock out drops and robbed of $95, sought Prose cuting Attorney Anglin in Warsaw. He accused three men from the city of relieving him of his money while he was dazed.

Edward S. Landerman as administrator of Jesse Leeper estate sues the Russell Co and Arbuckle Ryan Co for 10000 damages. The case stems from a traction engine sold to Wesley Delcamp of Marshall county and repaired at an Arbuckle Ryan Goshen branch. The engine allegedly rusted and exploded, killing Leeper, an employee. The complaint spans three paragraphs and is noted as one of the longest damage filings of its kind here.
Clark Lane aged 84 died after a 10 day illness with typhoid fever. Born in Hamilton, Ohio he moved to Elkhart in 1892 and built a library and orphans home and supported public gifts. He developed St Joseph river power and was known for litigation. Survived by son J C Lane of Elkhart and daughter Maude S L Jackson of Mt Healthy Ohio. Remains to be buried in Hamilton.
The county refuses funding for Rock Run creek and North Main street bridge improvements. City plans to open First street gain little benefit as council balks at required appropriations. Officials Menaugh and Troyer fail to secure funds. efforts will resume next spring.
Maude Drenk, an Elkhart girl who disappeared after being chastised by her mother for seeing Roy Swaffield, was found in St. Joseph Michigan at 2 AM. Her father and Officer Miller brought her home. She had worked in a laundry and with Tracy Snyder in Cassopolis, who used an assumed name.
The will of Georgia Etta Connolly who died August 16 in Elkhart was filed for probate in the Elkhart Superior court. She bequeaths all personal and real property to her daughter Ada Esther Connolly. Witnesses to the will were Perry L. Turner and James B. Deshon.
Horace Best a nine year old son of Mr and Mrs R R Best of Elkhart disappeared from home and police were notified. He prepared for a long trip taking two suits of clothes with him and is thought to have gone to Mishawaka Osceola or Bristol to relatives.
The Woman's Musical club votes to suspend operations for one year, after which programs will resume. Directors say the club has never taken a vacation in its years of existence and a rest is deemed advisable.

Mr and Mrs Christian Bloss of Benton mourn the death of their sole son Charles 26 in Oneda Florida from appendicitis after seven years in the area as a blacksmith. He fell ill recently and died in hospital. The father left for Florida to bring the body home for burial amid concerns over shipment timing.

The Chicago South Bend Northern Indiana railway plans a double tracking project on Main Street Elkhart from the monument to Jefferson Street once materials arrive. Ties are laid, old track removed, and the line will be centered with heavy steel rails for durability.

A major blaze last night destroyed W O Sesaline hardware occupying the Elba Parks building in Topeka Louisiana county. The fire caused about 2000 in stock and structure losses with 10000 insurance on stock and 10000 on the Parks policy. The two story block housed carriages on the second floor and threatened nearby shops until heroic bucket brigades contained the fire. Local residents and Goshen aid arrived as the post office and drug store were threatened.
William Bandelier son of Mr and Mrs Augustus Bandelier and Maude Cripe daughter of Mr and Mrs Simon Cripe of Jefferson township were secretly wed at the Baptist church in South Bend Tuesday afternoon. They have returned to Goshen and will reside here permanently.

Massachusetts is named as birth place with Indiana Ohio Pennsylvania and Illinois forming a growing regional network.

P M Henkel of Eau Claire Michigan announces he cannot attend Goshen next Saturday to speak on The Times of 1844 due to his wife Mrs Henkel’s serious illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Fought will be held at 10 a m tomorrow at the home of her daughter Mrs Ralph Lane 814 Middlebury Street North Side. The body will be shipped to Constantine Michigan on the 1118 Lake Shore train for burial.
Shirley Musselman, who suffered the loss of a foot and partial severing of the other in a railroad crash weeks ago, reports from Inglewood that he is practically well. He will stay in the hospital until artificial feet are made and fitted before returning home.

W. D. Ferris of South Bend was arraigned before a justice court for issuing a fraudulent check and held to the circuit court under $100 bond. The arrest followed Ferris paying a $100 check to H. G. Zimmerman that was refused at American Trust Company where the check was drawn.
The city of Hikhart was compelled to borrow $10,000 to tide over debts while the school tax levy stayed at $1.10 per $100 of assessment. Mill wood priced at $1.00 per cord.
The third bi annual reunion of the Four Generations Society for Millersburg residents opened in the school park and continues tomorrow with a harvest jubilee. About 200 visitors from Goshen and other distant states attended. a male quartet from Elkhart, Goshen, and Millersburg provided music. A reception was held this morning, and the group may vote to hold the next reunion in five years.
A large turnout is expected for Elk Hart County old settlers picnic at Court Park on Saturday with elaborate plans. The program includes songs readings speeches and German and English selections, ending with benediction by Rev. Rench.
