He plans a much needed rest after years without vacation. Mr Fieldhouse will devote time to his extensive business interests in and about Kikhart.
In Barrrorp Connecticut on September 5 Joe H. Lesh’s horse Junius won second money with a best time of 2 07.
Joe H. Lesh received a telegram announcing John A. McKarron as winner of the Boston Challenge Cup race held today in Cleveland.
William Winters, followed 60 miles by Carl Shick of Quincy Michigan, was tracked to Elkhart where he was captured after taking a pocketbook from an elderly woman. Winters surrendered and likely faces a year or more in Jackson penitentiary for the theft and pursuit.

Doctor Zimmerman attends a South Bend prize fight and carnival, later attempting to ride an elephant without injury. Brice Minnich dislocates and reduces a right thumb during baseball practice. A carload of bottles for Will Misgen’s upcoming bottling works arrives.
Chicagoan Harry Forbee knocked out Big Mackay of Findlay near the fight’s end at Taylor field in South Bend. A 20 round title bout was reduced to a dramatic finish in the final seconds. The carnival featured several bouts and was well attended by Goshen visitors.
George Weston of Chicago, chief engineer for Winona Warnah Elk hart South Bend Traction Co, urged local stock purchase of 5000 dollars. Surveyors start next week and may locate east of town if key support is not shown. delaying could cost the town the railroad line.
A small fire started when a spark ignited the floor during preparations for a new fireplace at a Goshen house on Fifth street around 9 15 this morning. Inmates removed carpet and furniture and doused the flames without a call to the fire department. Fire Chief Snobarger arrived and assisted. Insurance through Hyde and Brooks will cover the loss.
The Carnegie library is due to be completed by October 15 with dedication planned for late October or early November. A 1000 volume order will arrive within weeks, bringing total volumes to about 3000 upon opening. The library will subscribe to major magazines and have annual maintenance funded by a special tax of about $2000. A $700 year-end reserve is expected for future purchases. A South Bend librarian praised the building as one of the finest Carnegie structures seen.

Elkhart resident Mr. Harry Kramer Jr. receives a $75 one year tuition scholarship from the Indianapolis College of Law for the best qualified and popular young man in the district. Kramer plans formal legal training and Indiana practice. The Ohio Democratic convention nominated Rev. Herbert Bigelow for secretary of state. Born near Elkhart, he left at 15 with his father Edwin Seely. Adopted by Mrs. Bigelow, he pursued a college course and became pastor of Vine Street Congregational Church in Cincinnati. He is regarded as a likely future secretary of state. Edwin Seely, now in Elkhart, is proud of his son’s rise.

Edward and Dwight Hulst met in Kalamazoo after 30 years apart. One, Edward, was returning home for his mother’s funeral while Dwight, a commercial traveler for a Chicago machine company, waited at the depot to change trains. Ward Hulst of St Paris, Ohio, is their relative.
An electric line is planned to connect Fort Wayne Garrett and Auburn. Fort Wayne remains a hub for electric railway ventures with frequent new schemes and many franchises granted in Allen county.
J. S. Brown reported a telegram from President Flint and a letter from J. F. Shuman confirming all is clear for the electric railway project. Both say to have everything ready to begin work, with 8000 cited as the expected arrival or funding amount.
Amos Nibart of Middlebury reports clover stalks over five feet tall that were planted last April. He also says he dug a two pound potato yesterday. In German Village Goshenites took charge at the South Bend carnival with a dancing delegation and the Nappanee band providing music.
Gov Durbin reports a requisition from Gov Richard Yates of Disinois for escaped burglar Martin Greene now at Michigan City. No races at Charter Oak Park Hartford due to rain.
