Reports from Chatteroy in the coal strike region describe nighttime firing from wooded heights continuing into the morning. Reinforcements of federal troops were sent to Chatteroy and Mine No 2 on Shacker Coal Creek after attacks and wire cuts. No outcome is known.

Hazelton Va September 1 The full scale committee of the United Mine Workers of the three anthracite districts met to decide on a policy regarding acceptance of the coal commission award approved by President Wilson Monday.
John Mazeppa, 3, of South Bend and inmate at Lengeliff asylum Logansport, choked on corn cob while being served corn. He attempted to swallow the entire ear and died before aid arrived. Survived by wife and three children. Burial at Logansport county cemetery.

Hobart Stark son of Mr and Mrs Samuel Stark of Cromwell was badly hurt when his speeding motorcycle skidded on the Lima road eight miles north of Fort Wayne. His companion Keith Depew had detached the side car for a tire change and Stark was en route when the crash occurred.
In Morristown New Jersey on September 4 a government mail plane crashed on James Street at 7 30 AM killing Pilot Max Miller and Mechanician Gustave Rierson. Both men were burned and trapped beneath the wreck as the craft plunged and exploded. A prior note from Washington says Miller was a highly regarded pilot and the Morristown crash marked the fourth fatal mail flight in 950 000 miles of service.
Reports from the northwestern front say Polish forces near Gredie nearly reach the Neimen river banks as Polish and Ukrainian troops recapture much of eastern Galicia and control areas near the Cheniester river. Soviet Foreign Minister Chernenko notes Poland favors peace but threatens a new offensive. The Soviet claim soldiers remain strong.
The Federal Reserve Board reports public refusal to pay excessive prices sustained a downward trend in August retail prices and slowed demand in wholesale sectors. Mrs. Culia J. Washinger of Upland was selected as a United States senator candidate by the Indiana Prohibition party at its Indianapolis convention. She is wife of Paylor University president. The state central committee may name additional ticket candidates. The convention barred candidates for Congress in districts where a Prohibition candidate could defeat a dry congressman on either major ticket.
The petition of the American Railway Express Company seeks rate increases. A hearing before the Indiana Public Service Commission will be held in Indianapolis on Monday September 13 at 10:00 a.m.
Beginning tomorrow all stores will be open the entire day marking the end of Thursday holidays this year with no restrictions on hours.
A plan to purchase property between Elkhart and Goshen for a county fair ground is entrusted to a Goshen Chamber committee after a conference with Elkhart leaders John W Fieldhouse M Lehman Harvey Wambaugh A J Strucker and R K Donaldson. An ensuing Goshen report is expected within 4 to 10 days. Initial investment of 100000 is required.

Hays urged Democrats to stop charges and counter charges and to focus on solving national problems.
Roy L. Latta a former Goshen resident now living in St Louis has moved his family to 1616 seventh avenue Birmingham Alabama. Latta has taken an interest in a wholesale millinery business and will manage it. His mother Mrs C C Latta formerly of Goshen accompanies him.
