At the Mennonite church biennial conference near Goshen plans were made to send a mission to Washington to discuss exemption from army service. A statement signed by 110 ministers, 45 bishops and 82 deacons affirmed opposition to all war forms and urged compliance with draft laws while asserting noncombatant service refusal. The proposal names Wilson, Baker and Crowder as officials to meet, with the aim of clarifying exemptions for Mennonites under the draft.

A South Main Street disturbance at the Midget cafe led to W H Thomas facing a larceny charge after a scuffle with W R Bartram. Bartram paid $5 in fines plus $15 costs for assault and battery amid testimony that included a volley of restaurant ware. Thomas was acquitted following the evidence.
