Goshen high school edged Elkhart 57 15 in a dual track meet at Lesh farm after a late relay dispute. Warren Finney earned the gold medal by a slim margin of three fourths of a point as Elkhart’s Work led with 15 points.
In Clark Lane versus The Consolidated Paper and Bag Company of Elkhart Judge Ferrall denied an injunction and awarded $50 on the cross complaint. Lane torn a flash board causing land damage and must pay $5 for art. Deputy Sheriff took Ray Long to Jeffersonville reform school. Decoration Day licenses issued in several cities and details listed. A Goshen couple to play in an Indianapolis whist contest with nine cities represented. 30th anniversary of Frank Roy’s railway service noted. Capt Jerry Allen reports a general order prohibiting G A R posts from decorating soldiers graves on Sundays and mandating next year services occur on Saturday or Monday. The change could not be set for this year, though most people favor Sunday over today.
Attorney Edgar Zigler will deliver a Memorial address at the Western Avenue M E church in Chicago tomorrow on the topic Patriotism of Peace. The Lake Shore observation car with Traveling Engineer Hahn Master Mechanic Cross and Conal Inspector Scribner was in town yesterday and dined at the Western Union hotel before heading to Toledo. Miss Dollie Swartz recovered a lost pocketbook containing $20 that had been left at the home of Mr and Mrs George Mack.
Trustees will meet Monday to choose a four year superintendent of schools. Incumbent Ellis seeks reappointment after 14 years in the role, first elected in June 1589.
The first passenger car on the Wi nona Warsaw electric railway carried a crowd of Ferry Hall girls from the power house to the corner of Center and Scott streets and back on Thursday afternoon.
Memorial Day services will be held at Jackson cemetery near Baintertown tomorrow with the Millersburg G. A. R. post in charge.
The council will meet Monday evening to elect a three year school board member succeeding George B Slate. Deputy Prosecutor Burris will deliver the Memorial Day address at Middlebury tomorrow. A Memorial Day observance in Goshen faced cold rain threats and a 50 degree chill. parade units led by Rogers Goshen Band and Howell Post 90 gathered on Main Street, with services at the cemetery including Taps and an oration by Father James B. Fitzpatrick. Many shops and offices remained closed, and flower shortages limited decorations for the graves of veterans.
A long list honors dead service members with home units across Indiana and nearby states. Names include John Back and Peter Dermotha of Indiana units, Capt Jackson Wolverton, Col E J Wood, nurses Anna Powell and Arsenah Martin, and many others with affiliations to 12th Ohio, 21st Indiana, 74th Indiana, and related regiments.
The board of review begins Monday and a forty day session is expected for real estate assessment. Pathfinders are asked to attend the hall Monday night for important business and officer elections.
The annual German Baptist gathering near Wakarusa expects 10000 to 20000 attendees with two 100 by 60 tents, free lodging, and $2000 in church expenses. Rail lines offer half rates. Goshen to Wakarusa fare set at 25 cents.

Elder N H Sheppard of South Bend preaches at South Fifth street school house at 10 30 a m and 7 30 p m with invitation to all. First Christian led by G R Hammond holds 10 30 a m sermon Gods Great Mercy and 9 30 a m Sunday school followed by communion. Methodist Episcopal notes May 31 with morning sermon Thomas the Pessimist and evening sacred concert and brief sermon The Omnipotent Impotence of Christ. Trinity Lutheran observes Whit Sunday with 9 30 preparatory and confirmation followed by communion and no evening service.
The Presbytery of Fort Wayne will meet at a Presbyterian church on Monday June 1 at 1 30 p m to examine and ordain two Princeton Seminary Chapel graduates. If approved the ordination service will follow at 7 30 p m Rev Dr Moffat will preach the sermon Rev Dr McGaw will preside Installations and charges will be delivered by named pastors.
