Washington reports show 219 voting for overriding the veto and 152 against, well short of the two thirds required. President Wilson argues that peace with Germany must not tarnish U S honor, urging Versailles terms as the acceptable path.
Indiana voters show strong support for a World War memorial in the state capital. More than 2,500 delegates from both major parties, chosen by direct citizen vote, have endorsed the project as recognition for Hoosier men and women who served in the war.
In New York on May 2, Albert H. Gary chairman of United States Steel spoke at the American Iron and Steel Institute meeting. He urged employers to publicly claim their rights and demand proper consideration from government and labor.
The House Foreign Affairs Committee reported out a resolution on May 28 with 11 voting for and seven against. It expresses grave concern over conditions in Ireland and sympathy with the Irish people's aspiration for a government of their own choosing.

In Indianapolis on May 25 Judge A B Anderson canceled the citizenship certificate of Gary lawyer Paul P. Glaser who was charged with fraud in obtaining it. The certificate had been granted April 30 1912 by Judge W W McMaha of Take county circuit court. Glaser was chief counsel for the steel workers during the 1919 strike.
Washington May 28 Commissioner Williams of the bureau of internal revenue issued a ruling to curb liquor prescribed by physicians limiting a doctor to 100 permits per three months unless good cause is shown.
Kendallville reports gas service resumed as two car loads of coal arrived to restore supply and support heating needs. Local leaders say delivery secures winter energy for residents and businesses.

Rufus Moran owner of the Twentieth Century Lunch in Elkhart and Carl Schick a produce dealer were tried in the superior court for receiving stolen goods. Each fined 100 dollars and costs with a suspended 1 to 8 year penitentiary sentence in Michigan City. The stolen goods came from the Wabash railroad at Benton. In South Bend Peter Manos bartender for Jolr Demas received a suspended 30 day jail term after a guilty verdict for unlawfully selling intoxicants.

Syracuse report states Weeds's Incorporated a Binghamton clothing firm was found guilty on all eight counts of profiteering in federal court. Judge Auastice Martin 3. Manton ordered a total fine of $31,000 against the firm this morning.
Officials report anthracite operators are willing to accept a presidential commission to settle the wage dispute. Secretary Wilxon announces the wage scale committee will meet here again next Tuesday to discuss the plan.
Thirty eight railroads in the southwest filed a petition with the Interstate Commerce Commission asking a rate advance of 2.82 percent rather than the 24 percent sought by the Western classification group. The roads together cover 51,700 miles and report property investment of 1.597 billion dollars.

The groom served in the United States Navy in World War I and the couple will reside in this city.
Paris reports a governmental decree bans exportation of mineral oils and derivatives. The Associated Press notes the measure is public in Paris on May 28.
Admiral Sims calls for changes in Navy administration urging appointment of a civilian secretary and a formal adviser to reorganize the service structure and improve efficiency.
Rear Admiral Sims urged the Senate Naval Investigation Committee to reorganize the Navy Department and create a civilian secretary’s military adviser. He rebutted Secretary Daniels and others, saying wartime failures were charged to the present organization.

Two strike sympathizers were wounded by pistol fire and three factory guards were hurt by stones during a riot outside the National India Rubber company plant in Bristol Rhode Island. The clash began as morning train passengers including women clerks and other workers arrived after the plant closed due to the strike. Scuffles included women pulling hair from stenographers and rough handling of several of them.
A petition in Clinton township seeks to enjoin Trustee Silver from proceeding with a new North Clinton school building. Signed by numerous residents, A. H. Ellwood & Son and Hikhart Architects drew plans. bids are to be received until 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 7.
Paul Havvard, 16, of South Bend, may die from injuries after being struck by a car driven by William Nukaszewicz. Havvard was riding a bicycle at the time of the accident.
