Washington May 2b reports big freight rate increases by region with 30 005 percent in the east 95 in the south and 23 92 percent in the west to bridge the six percent return on property investments allowed under the transportation act. Howard Techett chair of the rate committee sub panel urged the move before the Interstate Commerce Commission noting eastern railroads earned under one fifth of one percent on investments while the south posted under three fourths percent and the nation averaged just over one percent.

Former Goshen police chief Edgar J Vesey dies

Edgar J Vesey former Goshen police chief died at 11 50 am yesterday at 310 North Main Street after months of illness Brights disease high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis. He served on the night police force about 20 years ago was city marshal candidate in 1962 and appointed chief in 1912 serving until 1915. He later ran a taxi business. French President Falls From Train Near Montargis

May term opens with full docket at circuit court

The May term of the circuit court opens this morning for a six week session with a full docket. Oscar Johnson, ex soldier, is sentenced to 2 to 14 years in the reformatory plus a $10 fine and two year disfranchisement for forging a check. Amish boys Ira Mast Jerry Miller and Daniel Bontrager are fined $20 each and 90 days at the penal farm with disfranchisement for two years. Other quick penalties include Abraham Mast Chris Miller each fined $40 and 180 days. Uri Mast fined $20 and 80 days. Daniel Stutsman fined $10 with 40 days suspended. Several civil cases are dismissed or settled. Board of review appointees named. Judgment of $122.70 awarded in a note case.
