Court notes report a Northern Indiana pickpocket arrested by Sheriff Leader in Elkhart Saturday evening will have a hearing in Elk hart circuit court tomorrow morning. Verne G. Cawley of Proctor & Cawley of Elkhart to defend. Sheriff hunts for links to an Elkhart connected organized clique as clues are traced.
Mrs. James McFarland of Wawaka left a purse containing $2,000 in checks and $100 in cash at the T. C. I. traction station in Kendallville. It was recovered after children unaware of the contents used it for play.
The assessor and deputies report $347 collected in dog tax for Elkhart township. There is $69 delinquent and to be turned over to the prosecutor if not paid promptly.
Mrs. W. A. Jackson fell down stairs at Mrs. J. M. Latta's residence last night injuring her right ankle and sustaining bruises.
BH. A. Mulligan held $1250 on deposit in the Sico New York bank when it suspended. Prospects indicate about forty percent of deposits will be paid to depositors.
E. W. Baker who underwent surgery at Robert Burns hospital in Chicago has recovered sufficiently to leave the institution. Also an advertisement notes a completely furnished cottage for 11 people at Tippecanoe Lake with phone contact 797 B.
Indiana May 23 Special report: net increase of 1 267 926.07 in assessments for telephone interurban express sleeping car pipeline and transportation firms. Loss of 698 698 in express and pipeline valuations. gains in telephone interurban and related sectors. Winona Interurban Co up 500 per mile. Lake Shore gains on main and side tracks. Steam rail data incomplete.
Federal Judge Anderson grants a permanent injunction stopping Elkhart from enforcing a license fee of 75 per month on trading stamp firms and 35 per month on stores. A temporary restraining order had been issued May 10 and city efforts to dissolve it failed. The council had passed the ordinance in one session over objections, alleging illegitimate adoption.
Dr C L Dreese was assaulted by Isaac Baker during a professional visit at the Baker residence. Neighbors intervened. Mrs Baker and a daughter were present. A commission ruled Baker insane. authorities may place him in custody or jail if violence continues.
The eighth grade pupils listed passed the examination last Saturday and will graduate with the class of 1911, bringing the total number of graduates to 204. Names include Lucile M Benton, Nellie Blood, Iva Allman, Howard Ulery, Mabel Pletcher, Walter Metzler, and Asa Whirledge, among others.
The suit by fourth class members seeks to realize on policies with rates raised about 500 percent on Jan 1 1911. Edward Daniels is master in federal court hearing the case. About 3 000 members are involved. The fifth class has 60 000 members.
The estate of the late Myron C. Dow Sr. is settled after an agreement. Myron C. Dow Jr. as administrator filed an inventory at 20402.88 in value. The court granted a petition to pay widow Elizabeth Dow 10391.43 in 166 Goshen Veneer Co. shares. Dow left no will but life insurance of about 11000.
Washington May 28 Special Attorney General and other officials announce Senator John W Kern of Indiana will be among the chief investigators in the second inquiry to determine if William Lorimer of Illinois earned his Senate seat through bribery to secure the position.
Washington May 23 Special reports many appeals have reached Senator Shively asking for a reduction in the sugar tariff.

Mortuary record from Lutz notes the four weeks old daughter of Mr and Mrs Cloyd Lutz died Sunday at Wakarusa.
Mrs. Florence M. Hering, ex-wife of Frank E. Hering, sues in Chicago for 50000 dollars damages alleging fraud. This comes after reports of efforts to dismiss suits for one hundred thousand dollars in a South Bend case. Domestic trials of the Herings have filled news pages.

Elkhart County covers the costs of boarding prisoners for Elkhart and Goshen cities after a ruling that each city must pay. The sheriff is paid 40 cents per day for this service.
A McMann dredge working on Rock Run Creek in Lincoln Avenue crossing yesterday tore down a utility pole. Electric light, gas alarm and telephone wires were damaged, disrupting service in the area.
J A Swinehart of Akron Ohio hired to remove equipment from the former Goshen Rubber Works plant over several weeks. Four carloads have been shipped to Erie Pennsylvania and one carload to Akron. Richard Murphy supervised the removal. the building may be sold by Swinehart who bought it for speculation purposes.
S M Holliday of Des Moines is in Elkhart arranging with the Industrial association to stage a chautauqua for Elk hart hospital. It will supplant the St Joseph Valley event which suspended after a financial loss last year.
A Goshen man, victim of hard drink, faced Justice Galen Tine this morning and was granted one more chance upon agreeing to reform and quit excessive whiskey use.

About 50 young people gathered at D N Stutsmans barn last Saturday night for an enjoyable barn party. Old fashioned games were played on the barn floor.
Next Tuesday night W. J. Bryan will speak at the Bucklen opera house Elk hart on A Sign of the Times. The lecture tour is widely advertised and recalls his 1896 So. Bend and Elkhart stop during his first presidential campaign. He will arrive from Harrisburg Pa and ticket prices are 25 cents to 1.00.
Ida Mishler of Middlebury settled her damage suit against St Joseph Valley Traction Co for 10000. Compromise terms pay Mishler 1000 cash and all costs including witness fees. Jury verdict had been 4000 but a new trial was granted. Mishler is sister of L G Grady of Goshen.
George Knox a well known young man from north of Corunna with his mother Mrs George McNabb sustained an ugly scalp wound and a badly crushed head while alighting from a Lake Shore passenger train at Waterloo as the train was moving at about 30 miles per hour.
A Bible once belonging to former vice president Schuyler Colfax was dedicated Sunday at the First Reformed Church in South Bend for sacred service. The volume, a treasured wedding present, was donated to the church.
Congregation members invite neighbors to an ice cream social on the church lawn at Third and Monroe streets on Tuesday evening May 23. Special music by Verybolly is planned.
The sixth annual reunion of Elkhart county old settlers will be held Thursday June 8 at Rogers Band Park. It is an all day gathering with a picnic dinner. The forenoon opens at 10 30 with music and prayer by J W Paschall, followed by Rev Stephenson. Editor Groves of Milford Mail gives the principal afternoon address with other short talks by county elders. An enjoyable day is expected, date moved from September for better attendance.

Drowning rescues in Flintlake and a medical death in Bluffton follow blast injuries. Court actions include forger accusations and a measles quarantine breach. Whitley County Sheriff Schumaker suspects the Kendallville widow of Marvin Kuhns is the famed jailbird Della Bird. The prisoner was captured at Columbia City last week and linked to the so called boss thief. The Marion Grant County jail holds the suspect while investigators expect full identification soon.
R W ONeill of Toledo Lake Shore resident engineer and C B Emmons of South Bend general manager of the C S B N I Co will arrive here Thursday to confer with Elkhart residents and the county commissioners about extending South Main street to the crossing west of Dunlaps and proposed changes in the Yellow Creek channel.
Officials of the Central Passenger Association refused the state board of agriculture’s request to grant special two cent rates on all steam roads from Indiana points to Indianapolis during state fair week. Interurban lines will be used. Steam roads have resisted rate cuts since Indiana's two cent rate law began. A recent interstate ruling says the law is inapplicable to interstate travel, raising the prospect roads may set their own interstate rates.
A tramp who frequents Tenth Street entered Thad Dick's home at Tenth and Douglas after spotting an unlocked screen door. He stole a pocketbook containing 70 cents and hid it at a Goshen Mfg Co. lumber yard. Factory workers saw him but delayed reporting to police, making capture unlikely.

Sidney Tallerday of Elkhart County, age 60, fractured his right jaw during the extraction of an impacted wisdom tooth that had troubled him for more than two decades. He resides north of Elkhart and is recovering from the dental procedure.
