A military memo warns of a fraud played on the parents of soldiers in camps. The scam uses a telegram alleging a furlough and asks for funds sent by wire with no ID, then follows with a request to mail money to the soldier care general delivery.
Federal Director General McAdoo relieves every U S railroad president from executive duties and will appoint a federal manager for each road. Managers will be drawn from operating officers when possible to protect stockholders and preserve railroad identity during government control. Two operating districts are created: Allegheny region and Pocahontas district with named regional directors.
Reports from the French battlefront describe a May dawn clash as a strong German patrol attempted to surround an American patrol but broke under intense rifle fire.
