Twenty five county delegates were chosen to attend the Democratic state convention in Indianapolis on June 4. Alternates were named and most delegates planned to depart June 8 via the Big Four. Local officials chaired the gathering and listed eight township representatives with several alternates from Concord Elkhart Union Jackson Clinton Middlebury Harrison York Cleveland Bango Jefferson Olive Locke Benton Washington Osolo.

New Quarters Move for Western Union Company
Western Union Telegraph Co leased the former Metropolitan Building and Loan Association quarters and will relocate June 15. The new office is touted as the finest in the area, replacing a location used for 15 years.

Kennedy near death after shooting at Lake Shore depot
John Kennedy of Elk hart, formerly Goshen, son of Mrs. Sarah Kennedy and brother of Matt J. Kennedy, is dying after being shot by a watchman on Van Buren street following an Italian quarrel. The injury to his spine is expected to prove fatal soon. Little Joe Beyerle, son of the court stenographer, is recovering from appendicitis and improving, needing no operation. William Hunter, recently operated on and seriously ill, is expected to recover. he is Dr. Becknell’s nephew and known in Goaben.

Death of George W. Rich Prominent Former County Treasurer
George W. Rich, nearly 60, former Elkhart county treasurer and Goshen resident for over 20 years, died at his home in Parkside after a lingering illness. He is survived by his wife, daughter Elma, and brother Willard. Funeral services are set for Friday at 10 am at the residence, with later services at Osolo chapel. Rich, born in Erie County Pa, served in the Civil War and held local public posts including township trustee and assessor, later directing the Metropolitan Building and Loan Association. He was active in the Republican party and the G A R, and attended the Methodist church.

Track Meet Entries and Preliminary Results
Entries for the triangular track meet on May 31 include discus throw 100 yard dash 220 yard dash and 120 yard hurdle. In discus R B Kelly won with 8 feet C Weatherhead 75 feet and Kenton Bowser 73 feet. Arthur Stonex won the hurdle. Deahl injured his leg during the hurdles and Werb may be unable to compete next week. Memorial service announced for May 25.

Fire scare at Buckien opera house stirs Elkhart crowd
A calcium explosion in the Buckien opera house balcony caused a flare and panic during a ladies minstrels benefit for St. John's Episcopal church. The blaze was quickly contained, no serious injuries reported, and the performance resumed. damage was minor and proceeds will aid the church debt.
