Estimations by Auditor Batchelor and County Assessor Bryner suggest 1909 taxables will rise by about 500000 to 600000, lifting total taxables from 27800000 to at least 28300000. State statistician Peetz provided acreage data blanks, some late submissions hindered data gathering.

Robert Buck received a two day jail term from Judge Cooidge at St. Joseph Michigan after pleading guilty to bigamy. The judge described the case as peculiar and Buck was committed to the county jail for a brief stay.
John M. Kehr long time Syracuse resident died yesterday afternoon from peritonitis after about four days of illness. He is survived by several children. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday.
The Elkhart county fairgrounds plan a Fourth of July racing matinee. It is undecided whether the event will be held Saturday or Monday since the Fourth falls on Sunday.

J J Engledrum of South Bend a noted real estate dealer will spend three or four months touring Europe to study socialism. He will visit Slav countries Austria Hungary Germany Switzerland England France and Ireland and has letters of introduction to socialist leaders and workers. Earlier he spoke in Goshen at a socialist meeting last fall.
pneumonia claimed the lives of Lanora Conklin, 16 months, daughter of Sherman and Mrs. Conklin of Elkhart, and Helen B Heffner, five weeks old, daughter of B and Mrs. Heffner in Cleveland township five miles from Elkhart. Both deaths occurred yesterday.

Howell Post 90 sends delegate T F Garvin with S B Whistler as alternate. Women delegates travel on round trips of 4.20 via Indianapolis Big Four or 4.75 via South Bend Vandalia.
Mr and Mrs B F Hattel express great delight over their Peoria Illinois trip. They admired Glen Oak Park Laura Bradley Park palm house and the St Joseph Home for aged men and women and hope to be shown more of the city.
The body of Lyman Hopkins, who drowned in the St. Joseph river at Elkhart, has not been found. When recovered it will be sent to Anderson for burial. The victim’s father remains in Elkhart assisting in the search.

Albert Edward Rhodes aged about 24 son of Aaron Rhodes of Elkhart died in Perry Ja Sunday morning after a illness in a hospital. The body was sent to Elkhart for burial. Survived by his parents two brothers and two sisters all of Elkhart.
Warren Wolhaupter of Chicago aged 85 unmarried was killed and three fellow workmen were badly hurt when a trestle section blew down in high wind north of Valparaiso pinning them under wreckage during the New York Air Line railroad construction.
