John F. Robinson leads the Robinson circus in Goshen for its 87th year arrival from Auburn. Despite cold weather a large crowd witnessed the unloading at Worster lot East Pearl Street and the parade through the business district. Robinson has long family ties and history with the show dating to 1821.
William Whetten a longtime county commissioner from the Southern district wed Mrs. Lilian Umbenhour-Whitehead of New Paris in a quiet Milford ceremony at the groom’s home. Rev. W E Groves of the Milford Mail performed the service. The marriage, kept secret due to the groom’s ill son, surprised friends. the couple will live in Milford.
The Robinson circus wowed Goshen with a grand street parade and an afternoon performance featuring over 300 performers. Trouble delayed the big train as baby lion Taft fell ill requiring veterinary care and a nurse. Drs. Eliott Legert Reed and Eldridge aided the cub while Indian Medicine men conducted the Dance of Health. Taft is reported much improved.
A local preview promises the circus tonight with doors at 7 p m and entry at 8 p m The event boasts a seating capacity of 20 000 and calls the choice seats real chairs with real backs.
Daniel M. Martin 36, described as a tramp, was picked up in the Lake Shore yards in Elkhart. He is deemed sane and will be sent to Longcliff. He insists on stripping to prove his clothes are dirty. His father lives in LeRoy New York. Little more is known about him.
Relatives of Walter Fergison, an Elkhart man reported missing for months, believe they have found him in a swamp near Huntington. They describe an eccentric figure matching Fergison’s appearance and have rushed to the scene after hearing the description.
Schools dismissed unexpectedly this morning for a circus parade and performance. Factories also closed for the day, with residents sharing in the jubilation as the city paused for the event.
Goshen reports no improvement in the smallpox situation. Isaac Firestone of the Kelly Foundry is quarantined at 506 South Cottage Avenue after illness confirmed post visit to a physician. The Irwin will stage Elizabeth, Princess of England on June 4 with the Senior class presenting a historical drama about Mary Tudor and Elizabeth. Twenty eight girls and seventeen boys perform, with period costumes and scenery depicting 16th century Tudor court life and the White Rose rivalry.
John Hagerdorn, 69, of near Sturgis Michigan, shot himself after blaming his wife for the separation. A note in his pocket cited personal trouble and asked not to lay all blame on him. He left a widow and six children. he had been helping his 25-year-old son with the farm.
Bill Apple, drunk spectator in the Em erick blind tiger case in Lagrange, argued with Judge Dodge and was cited for contempt. He was fined $10 after admitting he went to court heavily loaded.
Sid ney P. Kline of the 24th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry writes from camp near Chattanooga on November 28, 1863. He describes the capture of substantial artillery pieces in detail and notes his brother S. W. Kline of Constantine, Mich. precedes him in death in Negaunee, Mich., in 1890.
Justice Whisler this afternoon married Franklin Law and Mary M. Whitaker of Elkhart. Clerk Fleming had previously been told not to issue a license to Law, as his mind was said to be affected, but Law nevertheless obtained the license.
A nice water set was presented to Mrs J McCreary of 206 North Whighth Street and a salad bowl to Mrs Julia Mays of 612 South Eighth Street at a well attended gathering last evening in Irwin.
Tomorrow night at the Irwin an extra number will be put on by Ger ald Garvey of Goshen who will do a clog dancing specialty. Gerald is quite a dancer and will no doubt make good.
The announcement says work will start on the Warsaw Fort Wayne road once the Warsaw Peru line is finished. The new road will run parallel to the Pensylvania line for about 40 miles, linking to Winona.
A valuable car owned by Jap Andrews was struck by a city vehicle and killed last night. The incident details indicate two entities, Jap Andrews and the city vehicle, involved in a fatal collision.

Florence Heidloff played a prelud e, Mabel Field Lena Leidner Mary and Mabel Field performed organ duet s, with recitations by Mayme Arndt Anna Haberstick and a dialogue by Mrs Schaenzlin and BE Schaarschmidt. The minister’s wife marked birthday gifts and the baptism of Anna Maria witnessed by Anna Prang and Maria Field. Ice cream and cake concluded the gathering.
John Lusher a farmer near Napanee and former Elkhart merchant earned 52000 on a recent Chicago Board of Trade wheat speculation. He has been in the game for years and once built an Elkhart block with profits but later lost it. He now intends to keep the 52000 net profits.
In Nappanee tonight the commencement exercises occur as the town presses Winona to extend the South Bend Fort Wayne electric line from Nappanee to Milford Junction after the vanishing plan.
The Fort Wayne and Indianapolis fast trolley line will end July 1. A Fort Wayne Lafayette fast service will run via Peru to connect with Indianapolis, with through Fort Wayne Indianapolis service to be built later via Muncie and Bluffton, cutting 12 miles from the route.
The Winona Interurban company shipped a carload of cement blocks from Winona Lake to Leesburg. This marked the first freight car for a patron of the line and suggests electric railways as a viable freight competitor to steam roads for heavy shipments.

A local advert promotes a special Saturday cut on all men and boys suits. The sale emphasizes discounted prices and limited stock, inviting shoppers to visit the store for the event.
Judge Dodge in Lagrange found Joshua Emerson guilty of a Blind Tiger violation. Emerson was fined $100 plus costs and $25 for storing the goods awaiting trial, with the contraband confiscated. The defendant operated the joint at Alfera.
Henry W. Caldwell of Elk Hart resigned after one week as light house tender at White Lake Point on Lake Superior. He was the twelfth man to quit the assignment.

The husband a machinist is stated to have scalded his wife with a coffee pot during a jealous rage and now works in Goshen after leaving Elkhart. A prior circuit court suit was dismissed as reconciled.
Prof Calvine a featured act at the Irwin plans an escape from a nailed packing box supplied by a local tradesman tomorrow night. The box will be placed for inspection before the theatre and, despite the escape, remains intact for the puzzling finale of the first performance.
The Bridge street concrete bridge over the St. Joe river near Mishawaka shows a settlement of less than one thousandth of an inch after loosening support keys. Contractor A Grover wagered ten to one that it would settle three eighths of an inch as cementing exceeded seven thousand barrels. The C S B & N I Co plans a double track over the structure.
Miss Frances Hull of Beniton Harbor Michigan brands the Denver trial of Ben Wright as a farce. Wright married her sister Cora Hull. He faced murder charges in the death of Cora Hull and their young daughter but was dismissed.
Defendant Howard Hiatt fled the courtroom before the verdict in a paternity case filed by Fannie B. Haines in Wabash. authorities cannot locate him as the jury deliberates.

Cornelius B. Miller and Miss Offie B. Miller of Goshen were married today by Rev. Wood of the Christian church. The groom, a telegraph operator, is the son of Nancy Croop of Waterford Mills while the bride is Frank T. Miller’s daughter of Goshen.
William Whetten of Milford aged 59 weds Lillie S Ambenhour of New Paris aged 39. Cornelius B Miller of Goshen 21 weds Ef fie B Miller of Goshen. Franklin Law of Elkhart 33 weds Mary M Whittaker of Elkhart 41.
Post K. T. P. A. of South Bend will name J. B. Webber of that city as a candidate for president at the Indiana Travelers Protective Association annual convention in Anderson on Friday and Saturday.
A man reportedly intoxicated struck the Hotel Hascall bus at the Main Street Lincoln Avenue corner this afternoon. His compass was badly broken.
Oliver Greenwood Norman Carpenter and William Bertch were today sworn in as special police officers to protect the public at the circus.
