Citizens in Goshen gather for the first republican judicial convention primary in Elkhart township as W J Davis and L W Vail seek the nomination. Polls opened at 1 pm and will close at 9 pm amid heavy campaigning and reports of strong Vail organization.
Last night a fire endangered barns of Dre. Bo Whitmer and C. Sparkin. Lew Ogie of the Gardner Safe Stable spotted the blaze in straw and papers near a pile of coals, quickly using a garden hose to control the fire. No alarm was raised.
Engineer Cooper and City Clerk prepare estimates for four short water mains extensions recommended by the water works and light committee. Latta couple purchase brick barn behind Latta residence on South Sixth Street near Lincoln Avenue. School board to select next year’s teachers with full list expected by late June.
A year old child of Moses Linn was killed in Nappanke this afternoon when struck by a BK and UV train. The child's head and limbs were severed in the accident.
At noon a runaway horse startled Mrs. Rachara Miller five miles east of town as she delivered chickens. Ephraim Hartzier tried to restrain the frightened animal, fell, and Miller was thrown onto the lawn. the buggy hit a farmer’s wagon on Third Street as chickens scattered, with Miller later able to drive home.
Samuel Suafer son of Mrs Theresa Sthafer of this city died suddenly at about 10 am while visiting relatives in town. He was in his early forties and leaves a widow and sisters Mrs Edward Derty Mrs Jennie Myers and Mrs Reliy tua ingurg. Funeral for Reverend A C Anda will be held tomorrow afternoon at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Further items describe a boxing crowd in Coney Island and a fall injuring Pearl Boyer at the New England Conservatory. An accident involving a runaway horse and a stove explosion at Will J Bauer’s home are also reported.
James Inks of Noble county and Sarah Inks of Napanee, aged 54 and 52, were remarried this morning by Justice Young at the county clerk's office after a prior divorce two years earlier. A sequence of related legal actions and licenses are noted alongside ongoing divorce proceedings for nearby residents and a pursuit for a horse thief gang.
Last night Mesdames Mishler and Brooks hosted a progressive pedro party at Mishler’s home honoring Elizabeth Noble Katherine Fink Leona Mishler and Gladys Brooks. Ten games were played with prizes to Elizabeth Noble and Dale Kelly, as guests included Phena Parfitt Lois Brothers and others.
John Conally aged 12 and Tommie Conally aged 10 ran away from home in Eckhart to evade school. They were seized from a Lake Snare freight train in South Bend by police this afternoon and claimed they intended to go to Peoria Lit. Father Toomas Conally lives at 414 Harrison Street, Eiwhart.
Clarence Arnold of this city will graduate from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland on June Sth and visit his parents Mr and Mrs Frank Arnold in Goshen before joining the graduates bound for Manila. Cadets have not yet learned their sailing date for the Philippines.
Twenty five students from the local high school physics class toured the dam yesterday. They are studying water and steam power and will visit engine rooms of several factories next week. The class shows strong interest in the project.
Edw Hentz joined the Hall Long and Eldon show yesterday afternoon but resigned today after a dispute with management. The tour continues to Elkhart and then Mishawax a. Good crowds attended today.
The famed Go shen foliage is at its best with leaves fully developed in the past week. Streets across the city prove Goshen as one of the handsomest cities in the state.
Ed Dolka reports a cow delivered a ninety pound heifer calf last night. Dr. Pollock notes it is the heaviest heifer calf he has seen.
The notorious Canadian Whitey, alias Thos Black, linked to the Richland Michigan bank job and the Lake Shore gang, was arrested in Joplin Missouri while living with Mrs Burkett wife of Windsor hotel proprietor Buckel. Kalamazoo and Goshen officers praised for the long pursuit. Russell remains at large. He used alias Albert Perry.
Mrs. Jno Zeitler of Elkhart, about 60, nearly 200 pounds, fell head first into a cistern while drawing water and was rescued by four men who heard her scream. She had recently been robbed of $200 and five watches and is believed mentally afflicted. Police also report a baggage-car incident on the Lake Shore flyer and several train jumping arrests in two days. Mrs. E Ferguson, 27, dies at Elkhart with husband and two children surviving.
The Lesh Stock Farm has begun summer workouts with colts trained every Tuesday and Friday. Yesterday Online, a celebrated stallion, ran a mile and showed speed of an eighth in 14 seconds and a quarter in 31. The season may feature matinees at the farm as horsemen arrive from various places, signaling a successful summer.
Reports say fishing is excellent at Lake Wawasee while many Go shen people plan a Sunday visit to the resort. Local authorities continue to pressure illegal fishermen with hopes of driving them from the community.

Attorneys Delafield Robbins Miller Drake Anderson Dushane Crabill for the plaintiff argued prior rights. Reed Stonex Black Bates for Indiana Power sought dismissal. Judge overruled the motion, leaving damages for overflow of the dam site as the remaining issue. jury waived and trial date to be set.
The Goshen census team sets a concise set of questions to ease calls. Enumerators are paid two cents per living person plus twenty cents per factory and five cents per farm. five Goshen enumerators expect earnings around thirty five to forty dollars each.
Howell Post No. 90 failed to secure Julius Caesar Burrows of Kalamazoo for the Memorial Day address. A local speaker is now likely to be selected. Before 9 10 train from the south a thief entered the Warsaw Big Four passenger station while it was open and stole a penny gum machine from the slot. This marks the second recent break in at the station by thieves.
