Secretary Daniels revealed unpublished war instructions by President Wilson to the Atlantic Fleet on the Pennsylvania on August 11, 2017. The president urged audacity, ditch tradition, and drop "prudent" from the vocabulary as he spoke as commander in chief amid a German threat.
The Goshen Milk Condensing company led by John M. Yoder bought four car loads of sugar for 60000. The purchase aims to carry the outfit through the summer as experts forecast sugar shortages in July and August, with current carload prices ranging from 24 to 27 cents per pound.
The notice urges enlistment with The Salvation Army claiming it saves money for taxpayers by aiding the sick and distressed. It asserts the organization rehabilitates downed men, boosts production, and reduces living costs, naming H. Vo. King as chairman and Edwin Stout as local treasurer in Elkhart.

Floyd W Koenig of Mishawaka jailed after being charged with fraudulently endorsing a navy pay check for 281 belonging to William Koenig.
Goshen city boards selected J W Foreman of Vincennes for the superintendent position after the resignation of James Wilkinson to take the Logansport post. Several candidates had sought the Goshen job.
Massachusetts Senator Henry Cabot Lodge is named to deliver the keynote as temporary chair of the Republican National Convention. James A Bean is chosen to run doorkeepers and Captain N Krowlian Ames chief usher with ex service men for security. Beveridge favored for permanent chairman by the convention committee.
United Mexican revolutionary government will seek immediate recognition from the American government. Reports vary on General Carranza. some dispatches claim he is captive, others say he remains at Queretaro or the capital. Border leaders still assert Chorran Zadies is captive while Obregon forces hold Yucatan quiet for now.

New York May 11 Standard Oil Co of New York raises gasoline price to about 34 cents a gallon the public pay. Goshen gasoline currently selling at 25 cents a gallon.
School instructors in South Bend embrace hiking as a routine to boost general health and well being among staff members.
An eastbound crossing over one street moved at a very low altitude and cleared over Goshen at 7 45 this morning. The incident was observed by local residents and reported to authorities for investigation. No injuries or damage were noted and officials are assessing flight paths for safety.

Relatives and friends doubt his fate though some believe he drowned others think he left home. Searches found no trace from Rock Run Creek or Mikluri River. A body washed ashore at Holland Michigan April 28 identified as Charles Muchao Gary fisherman who disappeared November 20 1019, prompting consideration that it could be Wogeman. The junior Mach body was recovered near Sawyer Michigan two weeks before the Holland find.
Floyd Kime of South Bend was arrested in Elkhart on illegal possession of sixteen quarts of homemade whiskey. He pleaded guilty but sentence was withheld pending a conference between the prosecutor and federal authorities. The defendant said an Elkhart man named Johnson directed him to deliver the liquor at a hotel.
The annual school enumeration released by County Superintendent Weaver reports a net county loss. Outside Washington and Jefferson townships gains occurred. Middlebury township lost 73. Of 13,780 aged 6 to 21, 10,987 enroll as students in Wilkhart county schools. Seventy-one colored children mainly from Elkhart city are counted.
Colonel Hiram St. Bearss, WWI veteran famed for Chateau Thierry St Mihiel and the Argonne under a Marine regiment, returns to Peru with his parents Mr and Mrs Frank W T Bearss after wounds abroad. He plans to go to the Republican National Convention as a delegate from Indiana's eleventh district to back Leonard Wood.

The Associated Press reports novelist William Dean Howells, 82, died in New York after recent illness from influenza contracted in Savannah. Described as the dean of American letters, Howells was a prolific writer, editor, and critic with a career spanning poetry, drama, journalism, and novels.
Mrs. Ann Studebaker Carlisle declares bid for GOP delegate in Bend. She would be part of a four-person slate and opens campaign headquarters to start outreach and mobilization.
Mrs Ann Studebaker Carlisle of South Bend opened a campaign headquarter in Indianapolis as a delegate at large candidate to the Republican national convention in Chicago. She is the first Weland to enter Indiana race and a declared supporter of Major General Leonard Wood for the presidency. Indiana will elect four at large delegates at the state convention starting tomorrow.
President Wilson signed a bill amending the deportation law to permit the deportation of Germans and others who were interned during the war.
CoL2 member John C. Lathrop spoke at the Jefferson theatre before a wood size audience. He, from Brookline, Mass., was introduced by Miss Pearl Dausman Goshen. Lathrop said Jesus withheld higher teaching until the Spirit of truth arrives and noted Mary Baker Eddy’s discovery of the divine Principle of healing in 1966 and the system of Christian Science practice.
The speaker said he was divinely led to name Christian Science. The lecture last night was the twentieth to be given here under the auspices of the local church.

The Woman's Christian Temperance Union of Goshen adopted resolutions on the death of Cynthia Davis a longtime Union activist. Mrs J A Simons and Mrs Fihama Jackson served as the special resolutions committee.
